I'm considering staying with family for no more than a month over the summer. It's an 11+ hour drive, but I would stay with other family over night about half way there as my mum would drive me up and she can't drive that distance in one go. It's possible to leave my two girl guinea pigs at home, as I'm sure I could convince my sister and mum to look after them, but of course I'd love to take them with me. Would it be too stressful to move them such a long way away, and them move them back a few weeks later? If it would be fine for them, how could I make the transition and drive as stress-free as possible, I'd worry about them being in a small box together for so long, as they quickly get annoyed with each other when they're close together.

Hi

You may find the tips in the guide very helpful. Piggies can travel that time; however if you have a pair with issues, I would recommend using two carriers next to each other so they can still hear and smell and (for overnight) see each other but they cannot get into a fight/fall-out if one of them suddenly panics in an unfamiliar, stressful situation.

Especially if you have boars, I would recommend to take bedding that carries both their scent marking (just let them have a little romp on/in it before you transfer them to the carriers) so their new temporary cage tells them 'our shared territory' and 'safe'.
