Whats the easiest way to move house with 11 pigs?
Do you move them first and get them straight in, or move them last?

We are moving in a couple of weeks and i'm trying to plan out how to do it.
The night before I am going to empty the bag of woodshavings into a loose bag so I can get the pigs cages made up quickly when I get there (I usually spend hours clawing the bag to get shavings outrolleyes) Then clean the cages before they are put on the van. Then put the pigs in their carriers in the car, so the ride isn't as bumpy.
Would it help ease the stress if I put veg and extra hay to hide in, in the carriers?
Do you think that would all work?
I don't want to clean the cages the night before and when we get to the house, half the cages are turned upside down from the bumpy drive and will have to sort it out all over again.
Have to get them in the new house quickly cos i'm gonna be needed to help get everything in. :)

that sounds like a good idea just treat them like you would going to the vets with plenty of hay and veg like you say to take their minds off the journey as they say a munching pig is a happy pig:)

Whenever we've moved with animals we've worked on the basis of last thing out first thing in. That way they're safe and happy for the longest period of time while you're running around like a headless chicken trying to get everything else sorted!

I'm moving with my 15 pigs for what feels like the 100th times soon!

I move them last normally unless like this time they are moving into a 'pig room' and then I move and settle them first.

I do as you've suggested and transport them in carriers in the car then make up the cages when I reach the new house. If there is a lot of fuss going on still I have left them in the dark and quiet of carriers well stocked with hay and veg as I think the dark and quiet does them well. Make sure you have plenty of their fav veg to help them settle in too!

Good luck with it all!

It depends how far your moving, when we moved 3 years ago we only moved a few miles so left the pigs and rabbits with a neighbour and collected them the next day so they moved staight in to their new houses
