Hi everyone. Help and advice is needed please. Mrs. Bumble is our last piggie now, she is 5 years and 7 months of age and has never suffered any health problems until now.Recently she has reduced her food intake but always managed a little of something, she seemed to favour hay and the dryed food. As a result her weight has dropped a little but not an amount to be concerned about. As a house guinea pig she is let out and really enjoys her trot around going from room to room until yesterday Sunday. She will not eat or drink so we have syringe fed water and critical care. She does not look her self at all, will get her in at the vets asap but I have to say the best vet, we think, at the practise has retired. The others always seem unsure when it comes to piggies. They will listen to her heart, check the teeth and then of course baytril. Our location is N.E.Lincolnshire. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am very sorry for your older girl. I don't think that we have a lot of recommended vets in your area on our vet locator, but please have a check. Guinea Pig Vet Locator

It is impossible for us to say what is going on. The recent heat spikes and the rather humid warmth have been especially hard on older piggies with underlying/developing issues.

You are doing the right thing. All the best!

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately Mrs Bumble deteriorated very quickly today. We took her to the vets and found that she had developed pneumonia and had fluid in her belly. She rapidly deteriorated in the vets examination room and passed over the rainbow bridge this afternoon.

Night night Mrs Bumble x

BIG HUGS!

I am ever so sorry; you have done what you could for her. Sadly, some issues can hit very quickly and hard so you are a step or two behind at all times even with the best vet care. :(

You are welcome to post a tribute to Mrs Bumble in our Rainbow Bridge section if or whenever it feels right for you. It there for those that would like to make used of it at any point.
