Cinnamon has had something wrong with her right eye for a few weeks now. Most of the time it seems fine but sometimes it is a tiny bit wet underneath it and at other times the white cleaning fluid doesn't drain away and sits in her eye for a few minutes.
I took her to our cavy savvy vet who gave the eye a thorough examination with drops etc but couldn't find any problems. She thought the eye did not seem to be draining properly and that it might blocked due to a minor infection and gave us antibiotic eye drops for her. We gave her the eye drops for a week as instructed. It was a lot easier than expected - Cinnamon didn't seem at all bothered by the experience.
Because the problem had always been so intermittent it was hard to know if the drops had made any difference but now, a couple of weeks later, I would say there is not much change.
She does not seem to be in pain and is completely happy in herself, eating as usual, no weight loss etc.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is there anything else we should be doing?

Her tear ducts may be blocked. It happened to one of my past pigs. The vet can drain them for you.

In older piggies the tear ducts can become blocked and/or they can simply have a bit of conjunctival overfill. Unless there are signs of infection or ot is severe vets tend to leave well alone. I had one piggy with this problem and on vets advice I just bathed the eye ware with some cooled boiled water each day.

Thank you both. I will try bathing her eye for now and keep a careful watch for infection.
