hi there!

This is my first post on the forum so hi everyone! My little furry friend is around 4 months old and tonight he pooped some mucus a couple of times. I took a picture for your viewing pleasure I wasn't sure if this was boar glue or an infection or just normal - any ideas?

I love my wee guy and I'm a bit worried!

Thanks

I would recommend to keep an eye on him and his food and water intake and switch from weighing weekly to weighing daily for next 2-3 days, but hopefully it remains a one-off and your little boy is as healthy ans normal as can be. See a vet promptly, if there are more mucussy poops.

It's hard to tell from that photo and he'd be the right age for boar glue to be making an appearance and it does look a little bit like that..... Did he definitely poop it out or did it just get left behind as he was moving around?

As Wiebke says, keep a close eye on him and see what happens. if he is eating normally and pooping normally over the next 24-48 hours then I think you don't have anything to worry about. If his appetite isn't good or he is producing abnormal poops (stringy, malformed, mucusy etc) then I think a vet trip is in order just to get him checked out. Hopefully it's just a one-off!

Thanks! He's definitely not off his food at all. I had been away for a few days and my boyfriend was looking after him but he's a caring guy so I'm sure that didn't have anything to do with it. He maybe fed him a little more banana than I would have normally but the wee guy is pooping as normal apart from the 2 mucus poops earlier. Is there anything I can give him to help? I bought more of the hay that I was giving him previously as my boyfriend had bought cheaper hay and I don't think it's as nice for them, hopefully he's ok

With tummy problems it can be helpful to stick to lots of hay and dry food for a day or two until things settle. Or at the very least stick to veggies you know he is ok with.

The first one I just saw on the floor but it had a poop in it. The second one he did in front of me only a few minutes later, at the time I was reading about Guinea pig noises and he came over to look at my phone and then did it. Maybe he got excited at the other piggies

Ok so it's probably poop related not boar glue. Just keep a close eye on him and be sapring with the wet vegetables at the moment and see how he goes...

Ok, oaft I'm worried. This must be what parenthood is like!
