Muesli v’s Pellets

When I brought our two boys they were being fed a cheap muesli dry food (the kind with bits of dry banana and pea flakes etc). After reading a lot about the sugar content etc I decided to move them into a good quality pellet, but they just won’t eat it. They aren’t interested and they love the muesli. How much of a health issue is it? Should i just withdraw the muesli altogether? They have heaps of hay, I fill the bedding area twice a day.

Hello. From what I’ve read here they don’t really need nuggets if they have hay available all day. And if they do eat them they only need a small amount anyway. It did take my boys about 10 days to start eating my nuggets when I first got them as they were different to what they were used to. But they eat them now.

Yes I’d just remove the muesli altogether - it really isn’t good for them.
They may decide to eat the pellets eventually, but if they don’t then don’t worry - pellets only make a tiny proportion of the diet in any event (just one tablespoon per pig per day amounting to around 5% of the daily food intake). as long as hay is always available, then they will be fine

Our last few rescue rabbits came with a totally inappropriate musli mix.
We addd it to the pellets we feed in a small amount at the start, but found within a few weeks they would happily eat the pellets we fed.
I would just remove it to be honest.
If they have hay they will be fine and if they choose not to eat pellets they won't starve.

Sometimes we've mixed the current food and the new food together in the bowls, sometimes we've done two different bowls, just wait till they're eating both and start to reduce the undesirable food. When George first arrived he was so nervous we kept him on his own food in his own bowl on a shelf! Ivy was keen to have a try but basically left him to it and you could see he watched her eating her food. When he walked past her bowl he would nip in for a quick go! She never minded sharing but he might have been driven off in the past by his previous companions - you never know what's happened really. I just try and make sure everyone's comfortable eating and not stressed, in the end it's lovely to see them sharing the bowl at the same time

Muesli is the equivalent of junk food.
Like others have said, pellets make up such a small percentage of their overall diet. As long as you feed unlimited grass hay and variety of veggies, you should be fine.
