My sweet Muffin passed away today at the hospital.

The last week has been a roller coaster. Initially we really thought that she was getting better, but last night she took a turn for the worse and even if we rushed her to the vet med hospital, she passed away this morning.

We are feeling devastated. Even if we had her for just 3 Months, she got into our hearts. She was the one that was the tamest, really accepting hand feeding and we were hoping that in a year or so we could actually pet her. Now all that is gone. We will miss her terribly.

The worst part is that the other two piggies will never understand where she dissapeared out of the sudden. Due to misunderstandings in their group and a fungal infection on Muffin, she was kept separated by a grill divider from the others. Last night when we took her to the hospital, the others didn't had a chance to say their goodbyes. We were unfortunately not able to bring her home, to neither bury nor cremate, this means that my other 2 piggies will never understand where did Muffin dissapear out of the sudden.
We, the humans, managed to say our goodbye from her.

I am very sorry for your loss. Muffin was stunning!

It is always very gutting when you come to the limits of what you can do for a small body. It is also normal to feel like you failed a beloved one when you lose it.
The other two will know that Muffin has passed away; they will have known much better than you that Muffin was very, very ill. A guinea pig will normally remove itself from group if it feels that it is dying from an illness that might potentially threaten the survival of the group. In a cage, it will move as much away as possible and turn its head to the wall. Saying goodbye is not essential in these circumstances as the piggies have already taken their leave and accepted what has happened.

Please concentrate on that you have given Muffin the best chance you could under the circumstances, and that you have given her love and and as good a life as you could.

So very sorry to hear this.
You gave beautiful Muffin so much love and care.
It doesn’t take a guinea pig very long at all to make their place in our hearts.
Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself time to grieve

Aw, I am so sorry that you have lost little Muffin x
