Very random heading I know:))

My local home ware store has started making and selling un-varnished beech wood mug trees, they look like this but not varnished :P:

And I was wondering what you all though of me putting it in the piggie run during the day to hang veggies and fruit from? It wont be with them un supervised but i just thought it could make feeding times more interesting?

Do you think this is a bad or good idea? :)

why not?

I think they would tip it over pretty soon though. A cheaper option would be to get an apple or willow branch and stick stuff to that. My piggies like chewing on the bark and leaves :)

Ahh thank you, I wasn't sure on the wood.. I think of something to customize the weight of it perhaps securing it down with something. :)

Hmm i think its a trip to the countryside at the weekend on a hunt for willow branches! :D

I have a couple of wire mesh balls that I fill with hay and grass (not so good for veggies as the gaps in the mesh are quite big and so they fall through them). They have chains that can be attached to the side of a pen/run. Or the chains can be taken off leaving a ball that can be put on the floor. They were given to me as a present, so I can't tell you where they came from. My guineas are happy to use them (although they're probably just interested in the contents!)

You could maybe screw it onto the floor of the hutch or something? I think they'd be ok with it unsupervised cos they chew hutches and wooden houses and are fine.

I've got one of those as well, from Pets At Home. The piggies love eating grass or lettuce from it. Though I wouldn't recommend putting it on the floor incase of legs getting trapped when a few piggies are trying to eat from it.

I think the mug tree is a clever idea, though as already said it would probably need to be secured to prevent it falling over.

THANK YOU all for your lovely replies they've really helped, I'm going to invest in one of those wire mesh balls ordered it from zooplus to put hay and herby treats in :) and good idea CiaraPatricia i could also screw in to a board of wood which can be moved around too! I'll go on my piggy shopping trip at the weekend and hopefully have some pigtures of the mug tree and wire ball soon! :)
