hey ! i’ve had my pigs for. week and no problems . all of a sudden yesterday i just couldn’t breathe properly and now i’m showing all signs of asthma which i need to go to the doctors for . my mum believes it’s because of my pigs but i really don’t think so . my next door neighbors accidentally let go of a gas container so our whole neighbourhood is covered in and stinks of gas and it’s the worst smell ever . my mum still thinks it’s the pigs and is trying to limit my time with them but i know it’s the gas and not them . what can i do ?

The obvious thing, no offence. Wait for the gas to go. Still having problems then get tested at the docs, alot of the time it can be a certain type of hay or the dust in the hay causing asthma symptoms. Do you have any other pets? Cats are a top one for allergies. Also the good weather has hit and oil seed rape is growing well, could be hay fever

thank you i will ! no other pets and i’ve never shown signs of allergy to any animals . the main issue however is not the asthma stuff but that my mum strongly believes i’m allergic to the pigs and so she is limiting my time with them which is frustrating and she refuses to believe it could be the gas, purely because she doesn’t like how much time i spend with the pigs .

Lots of piggy slaves are allergic to at least the hay, it's why I can't use Timothy hay, it's the worst for most allergy sufferers. I'd get on some decent antihistamine tablets, swap to orchard grass or meadow hay if you're not already using that and see how you get on. I find using disposable gloves helps when I'm cleaning them out, as I'm less inclined to touch my face! On bad years I also use a face mask while dealing with their hay. I'd wait for the gas to disperse before getting too concerned though, it may well just be that!
