So I told her that piggies will be coming home soon... Anyone who has read my previous thread on my mother will know that I have told her about hamsters :red Piggies don't sound so well in a muslim household lol

So she said right, these are the rules!

1) Small cage
2) One hamster
3) Don't buy too many things just cage, food and water

So I just knodded to everything she said... except that in my mind I was thinking...

It's a 175cm x 70cm cage... which will have THREE guinea pigs (no hamsters :(|)) and many things for them to play with in the cage. A big run too!

You think she might freak out when everything is here? :x

She'll soon love them! :))

I hope so! I hope they do the piggie charm on her!

I remember when I was like 10 and my friend bought her hamsters to my house. My mum made a huge fuss on how smelly they are and the next thing, she was playing with them!

Hopefully she will grow to love my guinea pigs. I just don't understand why she thinks they are nasty? I can understand wild rats but these lot will be looked after and cleaned!

I always find the people who raise the biggest objections to them are later found secretly talking and stroking them!

She obviously has misconceptions about them but you can educate her on those matters. You'll soon find her offering bits of carrot.

Yes I will difinately educate her. She never knew much about my budgies but now she knows a lot... she still argues with them and they shout back :(|) But I bet it is out of love!

I just wish people were not so disgusted of animals. They're living just like us and everyone is on this planet for survival for oneself.

Is it your culture?

My mums side of the family are Indian; my man came to England in her early 20s and married an Englishman (scandal back then! :)))

Although she always had pets here, when my relatives came to stay they thought it was disgusting having dogs and birds in the house! After talking with them they explained that they just don't "do" pets over there, they arent the norm like they are here.

I reckon your mum will be fine! She'll soon love them and be sneaking them bits if veggies and stuff! if my mum can, anyone's can! :))

my oh is the same. he always 'no more animals'. when blossom had her babies he told me straight they had to go. he's now built a fantastic hutch, 2 huge runs, shelters for in the runs etc etc. he goes outside to them and i catch him talking 'sweetly' to them everyday. he never refuses a cuddle off them either:(|):(|)

My mum went from not even wanting piggies to allowing me to foster and board piggies in my house, she loves them now :')

Lol, good luck when she sees the size of the cage! You could always say they are a very rare breed of jumbo hamsters!

:(|) that's a good one!

Oh i'm sure you'll talk your mum around.......once she sees how dedicated you are and that you're keeping them clean and well fed x) i bet you find her one day chatting away to them, and they'll be sitting and listending and then beg for food from her.....i think they'll have her wrapped around their paws in no time x)

My dad went from not wanting animals in the house to baby talking the dog to get her to go back to sleep after she got scared from some loud wind and furniture blowing over outside. He also allows her to climb partly on his lap when we are skyping and she snuggles right into him.
If my father aka the most stubborn man on earth can be like this than your mum easily can.

Haha she is in for a shock with a 175cm cage! :D Am sure your mum wont be able to resist their little fluffy faces for long though, especially when she gets a glimpse of piggie lips! My mum was a bit dissaproving when i got my pair of baby boars 6 weeks ago even though i am 27 and live with my boyfriend. :)) It's a parent thing! Getting my piggies was the best thing I've done for ages I just adore them and look forward to getting home from work at night just to see them. x)

Good luck cant wait to hear more. Try to get a pic of your mums reaction to the cage! :))

LOL I could imagine what the Indian family-side thought of your mother marrying an Englishman!

My mother was bought up back home and so she is very strong culturally whereas I have been bought up here. Although I am very religious, my culture is kind of my own. I had never been around animals as my mother did not really care for them. She's not evil but just thinks animals belong in the wild and not in the house.

I on the otherhand want an animal kingdom in my own house! I can't wait to have my own place! If I ever have kids, they will learn so much from having animals and hopefully will learn to respect them and help them whenever! I want to be vegetarian too but when I have my own place.

I hope she likes them!

You guys make me feel so much better! Thank you :)

I am pretty frightened about it all but like you all said, even the most stubborn of people have a soft side. I hope she falls for them. I think I will let her do it in her own time rather than showing them off.

I moved back with my guinea pigs and although we had animals we'd never had guinea pig's before well my parent's didn't first thing my dad did was help me build there cage and my mum has helped when there ill or fed them when I'm running late.

I do think initially it maybe a shock for your mother but hopefully she'll come round or you'll have to move out sooner! :(|)

Hopefully she will realise how adorable pigs are :)
My mum used to think they were like rats but she has gradually come round and actually touched one of my pigs, mind you I don't live with her so I just don't tell her how many pigs I have anymore to save any more lectures :))

ps I'm 41 with 3 kids of my own but my mum still moans about the amount of pets I have rolleyes
