Hi, could kindly anyone advise me on music for guineas, is it any music that they like to listen?

They can be very sensitive to sounds and vibrations so really the best types would be soft and calm with no harsh beats.
They aren’t going to listen to it per se, more that what you are playing doesn’t bother them. If they continue to go about their activities as normal then the music you are playing is suitable. If anything makes them scatter or stop whet they are doing then it may be upsetting them

They might enjoy birdsong or cat style music 🎶❤️

BBC radio 2 is popular here! 🤣

I hope you find some music your piggies enjoy. As Piggies and Buns says be aware of the sounds that your guinea pigs don’t like. Our boys generally detest bagpipes & harmonica’s. If either of these are playing on the TV I mute it.

Bagpipes and harmonicas, lol! I think mine would dislike that too.

We had one (Betty) who growled at the theme tune to Stranger Things (so we never got past the first episode) or anything similar, and she also took a dislike to any music with bass in it, esp reggae. If we get a taxi to the vets, I have to ask them to turn down or stop any music that's not pretty quiet and mellow. (They also complain about the car indicators, but I can't ask the driver to not use those!)

Our first boys Mr Toffee and Gerald really liked the 'Allo 'Allo theme song. When they first moved in they were (naturally) terrified, but we were watching the series at the time and noticed they came out and seemed quite relaxed when we left the music to loop on the dvd menu!

I used to sing to mine especially mantras as in mantra-chanting which calmed me and them. Sometimes I sang the odd nursery rhyme, like when instructed by vet to give medicinal bath (long time ago), I'd sing Rub a Dub Dub a Pig in a Tub. Not sure of the effect anymore.
Very sweet 🛁 ❤️

You could try singing to them. Polo has a theme tune that I song to him. Some rodents' whiskers vibrate when your voice reaches them, but I think that is more to do with hamsters 🎶🐾
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gives them themes! Sometimes it's a single pig and sometimes in pairs. Mr Toffee's was to the tune of 'Mr Sandman', Albert and Theodore to the tune of 'La donna è mobile'.

... anyway I've unmasked my weird enough now....

I find doing regular noises for them when I'm doing disconcerting things like medicine, or scooping for cuddles, or changing them out relaxes them. They can't understand what is happening but by doing the same noises each time they know what is coming and that it will be okay afterwards. You can see a pig relax after eyedrops when I say 'all done!' In the same tone once they have had them a couple of times.

Maybe you need to ask the Scots on the forum about their guineas and bagpipes? For me, liking bagpipe music seems to be in the blood so to speak (I have half Scottish parentage and spent some of my childhood there) so maybe my piggies had it in their blood too, by proxy sort of thing. I never tested that and I don't have guineas anymore.

______________

Now I remember also singing Kookaburra to various piggies and adding 'pigs' / 'piggie(s)' at various spots like instead of 'monkey' or where I wasn't sure of the words. My guineas used to look up and listen, but I think just because they knew my voice.

Way back I remember my first guinea as an adult, whose name was appropriately Piggy, he made the 'I don't know what this noise is' purr-type noise and I thought he was saying he liked that - sometimes he did that to my house keys jangling and once to hearing a brief thing of jazz music, which I don't like but left it on because I thought he liked it! Fortunately I learnt at some point that he was remarking to the non-existent guineas in the room that it was an unknown noise. Fortunately I also got a second guinea for him...

We are a bunch of weirdos aren't we!
When it's clean out time I make a ( very unrealistic) " Avon calling" doorbell noise, then announce "housekeeping ".
Any time removal from the cage is going to happen I sing "I'm gonna get you little piggy ".
There is music on YouTube that is apparently nice and calming for our furry overlords. I used to put it on when the boys were young and no-one would be at home.

I think bagpipes and harmonicas can both sound great (probably not at the same time lol).

Love the kookaburra song!

Last night we sang rocket pig to the tune of rocket man to Dottie while she munched on some leaves. She looked fairly unmoved either way. 😂

Love this! I do sometimes say ‘your side salad madam’ when handing over the veg.

Just to add on that our piggies are tolerant and seem to enjoy my moderate singing- they also have their own songs.
I used to sing Beat It and Park Life to foster pig, Beetle and our piggie Parkin. They have a particular Grass Time song when they go outside or we bring some indoors.

Our piggies are indoors and are in the office. They are used to hearing a lot of music from speakers and a variety of instruments played in another room. The only consistent dislike is the sound of bells- whether an alarm, or within music- Mini Roll gives a vocal brrp, short annoyed rumble if we accidentally play something with those noises.

I’m Scottish and can’t stand bagpipes so won’t be subjecting my girls to them!

It’s fascinating reading what sounds piggies like/don’t like on this thread (along with the funny songs we serenade them with).

My Cappuccino did angry brrps at any sudden sounds and even hated bird song outside but quickly forgot this when plonked onto her edible carpet aka lawn in the summer! In general, mine all preferred a very quiet space which meant I can’t play my electronic drum kit in the house anymore and they are on the opposite side of the house to my pet budgies! 😂
