My Guineas come into the house every other day (they live in 5 star accommodation in a shed the rest of the time). All without exception over the last 20 years love the telly, music whatever sounds there are and visibly relax..particularly with classical music. They go sound asleep to this.

So we have just adopted two sows, both around a year old. First night I brought them in we put some tv on..some fairly loud and no reaction whatsoever in fact they fell asleep. So I brought them in tonight, telly on again..chilled out. Then we put on chillled out Ibiza..well omg! You’d have thought someone was committing a murder! The two older ones were comatose but the two younger ones were totally freaked..beyond anything I have seen before. It’s most odd! Never seen that before..just turned it off..watching Yorkshire vet now..and all normality resumed.

Funny little things!

Interesting.
All of our piggies have been raised in a house that goes from pretty much silent (when I am at home - I don't 'do' any form of background noise) to chaotically noisy (when the kids come home from school, often with additional friend/s).
Both my kids play instruments in the room adjoining the one where the piggies live.
DD1 has been playing the cello for almost 7 years - she is talented and plays well and the piggies rarely react to her playing.
DD2 plays the trumpet and has only been playing for 4 years and is just less 'musical'. The piggies love it when she plays trumpet, and all of them usually get up and come to the part of their cage that is closest to where she is playing.

I love both of my kids, and am in awe of anyone who plays any sort of instrument, but I have come to the concluson that the piggies are a bit cluelsees about decent music...

Mine like a good sea shanty or boisterous welsh singing from piggy daddy's choir repetoire. They don't like the overly religious or sad world war commemorative songs or mournful ballads he sings. Sailor's horn pipe and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau are favorites :)

I listen to metal, sometimes quite loud in my office while i’m working. Piggies are used to it now but i’m betting it was quite a adjustment at first. They reside in a alcove just outside my office so I can see them and always check to make sure they are ok and not frightened.

My sow hates any music, but my boar isnt bothered, he sometimes zooms to music. All my boars ive had didnt mind music actually

Comet and Blitzen used to love it when music was on, it was the only time they generally kept quiet. I don't mean in the sense they were frightened, they were both quite happy to potter around and come over to say hello and everything, but if music was on, they would'...Comet wouldn't wind Blitzen up, lol.

Ours don't seem to react too much to music, which is quite handy as I play the cello, piano and recorder (under duress), DD plays cello and piano and DS has recently started piano and French horn (and fiddles with a trumpet from time to time). He normally plays his horn in the room where the pigs are. I've not noticed much reaction either way, tbh. Slightly disappointed they don't come to be an appreciative audience now...

Mine are used to rock and metal now.One of them was really relaxed when I was playing ‘patience’ by guns n roses.

I listen to a classic hits radio station when I clean my pigs' cages. I can't say they enjoy any particular type of music ... but they HATE any songs with whistling (think: Otis Redding's 'The Dock of the Bay') and those electro-theramin instruments (I think something similar was used in the Beach Boys' 'Good Vibrations'). They're also not too thrilled with my singing lol :))

Great replies..isn’t it interesting? I just find it so odd that they hadn’t reacted to anything but hated the chilled out Ibiza stuff..to the point of being genuinely scared. Not ever seen that reaction. Looking at them I think it was some of the tones and pitches of the notes.

My dad loves watching action films at full blast..when we take them over to their house they will sleep through anything, I claim even if there was a real explosion they wouldn’t move lol!
