Was just thinking back to older pets sadly gone. One never wheeked, ever, right up until he needed to pee when you were holding them. Then you'd lose an eardrum. Another was the best alarm clock I ever had, I could sleep through anything but he always let me know when he was due feeding and if I was even 30 seconds late, he'd attempt to wake up the entire street. (this worked up until a point - when I was staying at my parents house one Christmas and they had a dog who did not like guinea pigs, and did not actually realise til my alarm clock sounded that there were even guinea pigs in the house. Everyone was awake at 6am on Christmas morning, with a guinea pig wheeking like mad in one room and a dog barking like a lunatic from another. I thought it was hilarious - the family, not quite so much).
I've had this two for a few weeks now and I'd forgotten just how much more relaxed they seem to make a home. Comet's started rumblestrutting and Blitzen just kind of stares at him then does it back. And then they both just fall asleep snuggled up together in a corner. Comet's a greedy sod who manages to hog half the dinner because Blitzen's just not as interested as him (he still eats plenty, don't worry) and Blitzen's just this really long, lanky pig in comparison.
I always used to get told pigs had no personalities by people who had spent absolutely no time around them and I laugh at the thought now, of _course_ they do. They learn, they like, they dislike, they enjoy, they drive us crazy, all the other things that dogs and cats can do.
Long story short, pigs make the best pets. Now, if they would just stop trying to eat the letterbox every time they're out in the hall...
(oh, and the guinea pig alarm clock that was annoying the dog was doing it on purpose.)
