Hello there.
My Percy was a rescue pig and we've had him for around 6 months now. He was around 2 years old when we got him. Percy usually doesn't squeak and will only do tiny little noises when he is very grumpy or very happy. These little noises sound quite hoarse compared with the other 3 piggies I've had.
I'm just wondering if it's "normal" for a piggie to be mute, or whether it's something I should get checked out. It doesn't seem to bother him, as he eats, plays and snuggles like normal.
Thank you!

Perfectly normal, some piggies are quiet some are loud. We had a piggy 'Putt' that only wheeked once when she was five. She never made a noise ever

Is Mr Percy one of the piggies in your avatar?

Hi! Some guinea pigs are very quiet and have a hoarse voice (especially a very hoarse/lacking big wheek) while others can be extremely vocal and loud. If you are worried that he may have an underlying respiratory issue, you may want to have him checked by a vet, if only for your own peace of mind.

:) Yep, Percy is the white piggie. Albie is the brown one. I've posted a bit more detailed bio in the piggie pictures section. :)

Thanks for the reply. :) I'd never met a quiet piggie before Percy and just assumed they were all noisy (but adorable) little critters.

Some pigs are just really quiet, and I have had hoarse-sounding pigs (Sundae sounds like a chain-smoker- she seldom wheeks but when she does it is quite hoarse, and her 'chatter' is squeaky-sounding compared to my other pigs.) I've had both noisy pigs and quiet pigs and somewhere in between... Hadley wheeks for food but doesn't make as many twittering noises, Sundae very seldom wheeks but is very 'chatty' during lap time, Frenzy was all-round noisy and Linney was all-round quiet.

Yeah, we were confused with Putt. She would make the odd chunter but never yell or wheek at all. Pitch her sister was incredibly loud :))

my chesney was a quiet piggy but would randomly wheek really loudly and shock us and himself! :))

all my piggies have been generally quiet really, except benjie who loves his own voice (as do we) :)
