These pigs need antibiotics..I thought it was probably an URI right from the start. Are they on any? If not you need to take them to a different vet and get some Baytril prescribed.

yeah they are on baytril now, as well as the ringworm stuff and eye drops. (i posted exact quantities above) Cant believe the state of them. Luckily although the vet said its easily spread none of the other animals have shown any symptoms, and I have only been handling them on a nighttime and wearing different clothes etc.
Just feeling really low about it at the moment. They are both eating and drinking well, but really not well, and squeeking high pitched horrribble sounds a lot. Neo is Biting me a lot also which I think is due to the fact that he doesnt like all the meds, but who can blame him! :(

There is light at the end of the tunnel, i have a boy with ringworm and yes it is a nightmare treating him but he is now recovering and is almost over it, so hang in there, it will be well worth it:):)

hi, thanks, my babies have ringworm, and eye and chest infection, sneezes and sniffles :( Really thought Neo wasnt going to make it over the weekend, but the vet hasnt told me exactly what is wrong other than the scabs are the ringworm, everything else isnt? They are so small, and she gave me cleaner for all the cages and hutches which i am using too, just to be on the safe side.. i have 2 other piggies, and 2 rabbits as well, they are such a worry arent they :(

They are on all the med you can give them, considering they are so young. I sincerely hope they can pull through! Are you giving them probiotics?

I have just read the thread from the beginning. I don't think anyone has yet suggested hay-fever, this can mimic the symptoms of a URI.
I always get somewhat concerned when a pig is apparently diagnosed with simultaneous, multiple ailments and the medication does not seem to be working. I have looked closely at the photo you posted, I found it difficult to see any skin problem, that is not to say that there isn't a problem.
I will take a risk in saying this but I would stop all medication, treat for hay-fever and see what happens. I will now wait for criticism, (as usual)!.
I will reserve my defence at this time!

I'm sorry, I haven't checked the pages so I didn't know they were on antibiotics. Mstori if you are in the UK you can get an over the counter probiotic from Pets at Home called Vetark Pro-C Probiotic and it can be given with the antibiotics, it's really very good and helps with the nasty side effects of Baytril. How long have they been on the ABs now? Bear in mind they can take a while to work. Meanwhile all you can do is try to relieve the symptoms, keep them in a well-ventilated room and perhaps put some olbas oil onto a hot water bottle that is near their cage as it will help with breathing. Are they eating and drinking, passing poo and weeing?

yeah I'm in the uk, will see if i can get a lift over to pets at home, although I'm sure at the mo, they run when they see me! lmao.. they have been on the antibiotics for 4 days now, so not long. I will try that though thanks, and also the olbas oil too!

i asked if it could be an allergy although i didnt think piggies could get hayfever..
would the symptoms have got progressively worse though?

There is def a problem with the skin, it is all scabbed over on his nose now, although i cant seem to get a pic that shows it very well, especially as his fur is so shiny, i keep getting the reflections! lol but its def scabs :( although remember me saying at the beginning it just looked like a very small bald patch? he still has that bald patch the scabs are over that and over one nostril... and both eyes are sunken in and crusty, he rreally looks poorly.. Ash (brown one) isnt so bad, but only been showing symptoms for a couple of days now.

thanks

Yes, pigs can suffer from hay fever. A snuffly pig can be heard from some distance.
I am wondering if the "scabs" around his nose are caused by solidified mucus, which, when removed, could pull out the underlying hair and break the skin? This may cause bleeding which in turn would lead to more scabs.
I know I said stop all medication but, in view of your last post, I wonder if you have tried Daktarin Oral Gel, an antifugal ointment, on the affected areas?

there was no discharge when i first got him just a tiny bald patch which i thought was a white patch til i inspected him more thoroughly. Now they both have scabby noses, but only Neo has the scab higher up, The scabs go round the nostrils also. The snuffles and sneezes are really frequent now, and make them literally fall. Their noses are both very wet, infact they drip, but are clear and not green or anything. Neos breathing is still erratic, which i am keeping a check on, and the 2 babies are back together in the same cage again now, under vets instruction. They havent been crying as much since they were put back together although still doing this horrible high pitched screetch? I'm wondering also if Neo could be blind? but maybe this is just the eye infection?
Dakturin oral gel? i havent heard of this,, do you think it is something i should give on top of everything else? I dont want to stop all other medication. Neo in particular is nearing the end of the ringworm treatment now.
I'm so concerned that things are getting worse, and that when i first took them to vets it was for the sniffles, and i wasnt given anything, they were more concerned with treating ringworm and dismissed the other symptoms, now the 2 babies are quite poorly :(
thanks Tori.

The Daktarin Oral gel can be bought from a chemist, say it is for you own use.
Apply to the affected areas 3-4 times daily. You may need to do this for a number of days before there is any improvement. Ideally you need to apply the ointment for about 3 weeks.
The gel is a topical treatment ie local as opposed to a systemic (whole body) treatment and will not affect the ringworm treatment, which you should finish the course of treatment.

I didnt manage to get to the pharmacy before it shut on friday, but *fingers crossed* they seem to be getting better..

Neos eyes arent as sticky, and are "popping" back out..

They still have the bald patches, crusty noses, snuffles and sneezes, and now swollen tummys (effects of meds?) but just seem so much brighter and happier.. and NOISIER! lol..

My 2 boys are looking soo much better now! and getting bigger too! Also they are VERY vocal! Ive never known 2 piggies like them hehe
Neo been on meds for 2 weeks now, and the small bald patch on his nose (ringworm) is quite big now, is that to be expected before it clears?
They are both sneezing too (going to see about hayfever) but the vet said by tomorrow Neo should have been clear..

cant believe how much better the boys are now!
Neo who originally weighed 250g on 30th april now weighs 283g! and he was the most ill.
Ash who weighed 275g is now also 283g.. not as much a weight gain, but as they are the same age, i presume this is a good weight.. and the how strange spot on!
I'm so pleased with their progress.. they are getting checked at vets again this week, Neo still has snuffles, but think this must just be him?!?! and only 2/3 days of meds left! yey!
Thanks for all the helpful advice i REALLY apreciate it!
Tori x :)p

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
Sorry to hear about little Humphrey :(
So that everyone will see your post, start up a new thread, by using an old thread they maynot realise you need help.
Sending some healing vibes for little Humphre and whee hope his brother Alfie doesn't contract the ringworm either.

You might find this link helpful in the meantime :)
