I am devastated to say my beautiful, cute placid companion passed to the Rainbow bridge during an operation 2 hours ago. He was gentle, loved his cuddles and treats and I loved him dearly. There will be a huge piggy shaped hole in my heart and in my life as he was always there to squeak at me whenever I came into the room. He lived next to me, beside the sofa. Coming into the room will be painful now, but at least he is somewhere good, with his new friends. RIP my Bertie xxxxx

Oh no, i am so very sorry to hear this. They are so precious to us and leave a huge hole when they leave because of the love we have for them. Massive hugs to you at this sad time

Sleep well little one

RIP Bertie

Thanks to all of you who sent hugs. I miss him so very much, life will not be the same for me now.

I'm so very sorry that your lost your little chap. Popcorn free Bertie. The Rainbow Bridge has been busy today.

Thanks for your message VickiA. I notice you are a fundraiser/supporter of a guinea pig rescue. I have a question for you and maybe you would know the answer. One day in the future when I have come to terms with losing my beautiful piggie, would I be able to get pet insurance to cover a rescue pig? I didn't know until a few weeks ago that such insurance existed, but it would have helped me with Bertiie's fees, although I do not for one minute regret spending money trying to get him better. My daughter-in-law tried to get pet insurance for her rescue dog but was turned down as she was 'a rescue dog'

All mine are rescued but I haven't insured any of them. I think there's only one insurer who insures exotics at the moment. I know that @PiggyOwner has insured her piggies, and they are all from rescues, so although I can't say categorically, I would expect that being from a rescue is not a reason for exclusion under the policy.

Yep, my guinea pigs are insured with exotics direct. As I don't know their dates of birth, I estimate.

:(so sorry for your Bertie... I did not even know anything about his operation... I have missed your last thread
I would like to see a pic of Bertie, if you like too.
I can imagine how sad you feel now. I hug you:hug:

Thank you for your hugs! I have been trying to upload a photo of Bertie sadly I'm not good with some technology but I will try again as I would love everyone to see how handsome he was x

yes, he was a gorgeous piggie! I also still think about my Ugo who died 15 years ago and I have a pic of him here on my living room. I will never forget him but having now two new piggies is making me feel better when I look at Ugo's picture :)

Its amazing how much of an imprint they leave on your heart when they leave us but I hope you have many years of love and laughter with your new piggies. I have placed Bertie in a pretty box and wrapped him up to keep him warm and he will be buried in a nice place in my garden so he will always be with me. Some may think that is a strange thing to do but it will make me feel better.

you are doing right! and you can even plant some flower or why not? even some dandelion flower... or some veg he preferred most; you have a great luck to own a garden.
Do you have other pets? are you thinking about adopting a new piggie? maybe it is too early... but I hope you will do that :)

Hello
Yes I have another pet I am fostering a house rabbit. I was going to give myself time to come to terms with losing my beloved Bertie, but my house is so very quiet and lonely, I will probably be visiting a guinea pig rescue very soon. How are your piggies?

very good idea! you will never find another Bertie, but another piggie will come into your heart and will help you in this difficult time.
My piggies seem to be very fine! Hope they will be even in the future... for the next years, I hope!
They come from a rescue, too. From another city... they had a quite long journey by train but they had no stress at all. The train was fast and they travelled hidden in their hay and eating their vegs:))
One of them was a bit underweight, but she is growing fast and eats a lot.
