Today I lost my most beautiful lady LilyPig. Over 5 years ago she came to me, 2 years old and in a pitiful state thanks to a mite infestation. She recovered well but had already won her permanent home with me so was never put up for adoption. She was one of the founder members of my large female group - up to 15 at one point. After the dominant LuLu Lollipops passed away LilyPig became the boss, a kind leader who protected the babies that came into the group needing a replacement mother. Once Lucy joined the gang and took over 2 years ago, Lily gladly relinquished her crown and enjoyed her retirement. Lily finally started to show her age last month and started losing weight. She lost none of her sparkle or enjoyment of treats and sunshine but it was obvious that her time had come at the age of seven and a half years. So this past week she has been on Metacam to relieve any discomfort that she may have been feeling - not that she showed any signs - and she got to enjoy all her favourites everyday, eating dry food was out in the last few days so she just had all her yummy favs and lots of cranberry juice. Very quietly this morning she passed snuggled in her fleece blanket. I 'm trying not to feel too much sadness as she has a lovely time, did exactly as she pleased and lived twice as long as many other pigs. I feel incredibly lucky to have had her in my life and in my piggy group for so very long. Thank you LilyPig my beautiful, beautiful girl.

If you watch the video at the very bottom of my blog Lily is there, together with many of my permanent group enjoying their time in the run. It always makes me smile.

Thank you everybody for your kind words - you have no idea how much they mean to me and how they have helped over the last few days. This is the first time I've used the RB section but felt that LilyPig deserved to be known by more than just my piggy family. She really was a darling girl and so very glamorous!
