I am very sorry for your loss! Guinea pigs are in many ways people in fur coats; they live very deep in our hearts. Sadly the pain of a loss is never gets easier. You have lost a friend who you have shared a unique and irreplaceable bond with. You have to grieve as much as you love; they are the two sides of the same coin. Grieving is like the shade that comes with light - and it is the shade that brings the light fully out.
What can be a bit easier is that by knowing that you have done your best to give Neo a happy life, you do not suffer from the feelings of guilt and failure that many loving owners suffer from at the onset of the grieving process.
If you feel that talking about Neo and your loss can make you feel better, please consider calling a free pet bereavement line. They are manned by specially trained people, but they are fully confidential so you can feel safe to say anything you need to. Several forum members have found that it has really helped them with their own loss to have somebody understanding to talk to.
