My old boy, Bill, went to the bridge today, after a few days of being very unwell.

He came to me when he was a tiny pup at 8 weeks old and he was about to celebrate his sixth birthday in a few weeks.

Bill was such a character and loved by everyone who met him. He loved humans, but hated other piggies and fought with everyone of his piggy roommates, until he found happiness living alone, but in a room with other boys, all of whom loved to visit Bill and would rumblestrutt at him. He was the absolute top boss of the herd, even to the very end. All the other boys had a deep respect for him. Because of his fearsome reputation amongst the herd, he was often called Bill the Bull.

Bill has been a healthy piggy up until now. He developed a lump about 18 months ago, which has been diagnosed as a fatty lump. With him being too old to remove it via surgery, he lived life with it and he never let it slow him down. He was the life and soul of the house and certainly of my life.

He loved food, especially his veggies and fruit, and his treat treats (Burgess Excel fruit hearts in a blue packet). He adored playing out in the house and he was the type of piggy I could shut in his bedroom free of anything he might chew, and he'd happily go for a wander, see the other piggies and then get back in his pen. He loved his castle pigloo more than anything and his Mr. Ted (his small white bear), who he either wrestled or cuddled depending on his mood.

As he grew older, Bill couldn't popcorn the same, but he still showed his excitement through his little popcorn of a head shake, sort of moving his ear as he did it.

In the last six months or so, I was lucky enough to start receiving kisses from Bill. He'd just kiss my hand. He knew what kiss kiss meant and he'd shower me with kisses, often in exchange for a treat treat, cuddles or time playing out in his room.

The vets he saw on his two recent visits were just lovely. I can safely say he was relaxed and trusting of them both. They did some pawprints and gifted me a tiny bottle with a snippet of Bill's hair in in a tiny raffia bag, which was so, so kind and I'll treasure forever.

I'll miss Bill so very much. Today is a very painful day. I'm going to plant some flowers I've bought in memory of him.
