Junior Guinea Pig
Hello everyone,
So Pickle and Twiglet are officially bonded. I thought I would create a little diary explaining how it went. Twiglet is 12 weeks old and Pickle is 6 months. My main worry is that Twiglet is only little while Pickle is almost full grown so I will watch for bullying or over aggressive mounting.
Day 1- Pickle and Twiglet are now in the same room as one another (after quarantine). Twiglet and Pickle definitely know each other is there and Pickle is even coming to the front and calling to him.
Day 2- Introduction- I set up a large floor space in my kitchen with washed fleece liners and a large hay pile in the middle. Pickle and Twiglet were both placed inside at the same time. Pickle instantly started rumble strutting whilst Twiglet followed him around. After a few mins Pickle noticied the hay and began to eat. Little Twiglet who I was worried about began to jump on Pickle’s back (who simply just shrugged him off - no aggression). As expected there was a lot of bum sniffing mainly from Twiglet lol. Pickle mounted Twiglet but got bored pretty quickly; and continued to eat. Over the next two hours the rumble strutting became less frequent and I felt confident in letting them into their cage. Just before they went back to their cage both pigs washed themselves!
Day 2 - Cage
(Whilst the pigs were in the cage I kept all doors open so I could access and ensured fleece hides were open on both ends so no one could get cornered. The cage was disenfected to remove previous pig scents too. I also washed the food bowls and used fresh bedding)
Inside the cage Twiglet was very excited by the extra room and proceeded to do zoomies much to Pickle’s delight. Pickle wasn’t very impressed and rumbled when Twiglet nudged into him but then settled down with a yawn and went to sleep! Unfortunately, Twiglet chose this moment to jump over him mid zoom. Bless Pickle though he just lifted his head gave him a little nudge and layed back down.
Over the next four hours I stayed in my room with them and introduced veggies which went well, Twiglet did steal a piece from Pickle but he didn’t seem to mind!
Dominance- Much to my surprise my 380g piggie Twiglet seems more dominant however Pickle definitely puts him in his place when he zooming or trying to jump on him lol. I think with him being a baby he is just a little over excited so will hopefully calm down. Today I took Pickle out for claw clipping which greatly upset Twiglet who started wheeking when he heard Pickle complaining lol. Overall I am really pleased with how it went and am crossing my fingers the bonding continues over the next few weeks.
(Sorry if this post is too long, I just figured a diary would be more helpful)
