Hi, thought I would share my handy work with you as my boys don't seem the slightest bit interested in it lol. This is only a 'make do' run just to given them a bit of extra space for now when I'm at home, I hope to make a wooden one soon. I put this together this morning but they haven't used it yet :(
It does look a bit boring i need to buy more bits for them eg plastic igloo for outside more tunnels etc. (oh just noticed I have forgotten to remove the hayracks)image.webp

I'm going to put the hutch on the grass like you have @Flutterby I think they will use the run better that way. I just need to wait for help in moving it :) We live in the country so needed to enclose it with chicken wire as I don't trust the wildlife and the local cats.

Is this the bluebell hideaway too? Yes its very heavy for 2 people to move let alone one! My bluebell is on concrete with the run going onto the grass, my girls love it :)

Yep, we've got the same hutch :) i think the hutch can look small in photos but it's a really good size I think. We have a very sunny south facing garden, this is the only place I can put the hutch so that it never gets any sun directly onto the front of it, I like your way better... hutch on concrete with the run on the grass :)

Oh my lord I am so dumb! I'm sat here speaking to you like 'oh, me and my3cuteboys have this hutch too... its catching on!' and making NO connection. Oh dear I need a nap! :P

Ha ha that's ok but funny :) I need a nap too I keep messing up my words lol
1) give....not given lol
2) HayRACK (no...s...needed) ......

sadly no time for a nap as my girls will be back from school soon then I'm off to work :(

I swear sometimes I just dont pay attention! Wish I had time for a nap too, still an hour to go of a 12 hour shift! :(

Little update.....I could not get my Oreo back in the hutch at bedtime he loves his run. :) I'm told the other two have not used it whilst I was at work and I had not seen them use it all day :(
Oh my word we were crying with laughter watching Oreo going crazy at tea time, he was doing laps of the run and hutch, popcorning, he kept stopping changing direction and then popcorning....crazy piggy :)
I'm not a fan of the bars on the run after reading about piggies getting stuck in things, I brought the run because it has many uses and before I had heard about piggies getting trapped....I can use it indoors, like I am now and on its own the grass. I'm only letting them use it when I'm able to keep an eye on them. I will move the run part to the grass so they get an hours grass time each afternoon then just tie it back onto the hutch so they can go outside when they like...well Oreo can anyway lol.

Looks good! You could try covering part of it to encourage them to use it, it makes them feel more secure - seemed to work with my boys. I drape a blanket or towel over half their run so it covers some of the top & side so it feels more enclosed for them :)

Hi @katie-elizabeth, thank you :)
I thought it might seem a little scary to the other two as their not as confident as Oreo. I will try putting a blanket over the part that is joined to the hutch tomorrow to see if that helps.
It's really not the best of pictures I think the hutch and run looks really small in this photo.

They'll soon get used to it, the first few times I put mine in their run they wouldn't move at all! Then one day they just decided to be brave and they loved it. Like you've said, once you get some more hideys for them they'll be fine :) I'd reccommend getting a step stool or two, they're great for hiding under

When i built my run a few of my ladies were a little shy about using it. I brought them out every evening, closed the hutch, covered half the run and put hidy tubes and their daily veg in the run. I did this every night for a week and now they come out of the hutch on their own for veggies as they are used to the new routine and i leave the hutch open and have to usher them back to bed at night time :)

I've been limited on what I can use for them due to their treatment,

that's very helpful thank you flutterby I will lock them all out of the hutch for a short while today and see how we get on.

It was a case of 'if they don't see that outside is nice they won't know' with me. They still had plently of places to hide and a dark end. Their evening veggies are fed in the run and they all come scarpering out now quite happily :)

I've found some more boxes to add to their run (I will be so glad when this treatment malarkey is over) I've made a covered over area and I stuck pip and fudge outside for a bit this morning, their all soggy wet now so I've let them back in until they dry off.
I'm going to start putting their afternoon treat/veg in the run :)
Thank you :)

Aww bless soggy pigs! They would be daft and not find somewherew sheltered while it rains!

@Flutterby I have to spray them until their wet every morning and afternoon with F10 treatment Hun, sorry I didn't make my message very clear :( hopefully I will get a call on Friday or Monday to say they are all better and I can stop all treatment....my piggies and I can not wait :)

Oh right, i thought it strange that they didn't go and hide if its raining, that explains it, doh! Hopefully they will come up clear for you soon! :)

Hi @katie-elizabeth yes sadly Hun :( were into week 5 now. We did get the all clear for the lice and fur mites on Friday last week so that's fantastic :) plus I was told to stop the itrafungol as I had been giving it to them every day for 4 weeks. I've still got to carry on with both hutch and piggy F10 solutions daily until the vet calls with the ringworm test results which I'm keeping my fingers crossed came back clear.

My poor boys must of been very very poorly because I caught ringworm from them 8 days after bringing them home (thankfully it's just one large patch on my chest) I had to get a much stronger cream from the doctors a week ago because the 1st cream they gave me didn't hardy work at all, this one is starting to work now thank goodness I had even been putting the cream on during the night as the dose they said to use just didn't help with the itching etc, if I've been struggling this much to get on top of my ringworm I can honestly say my little boys must of had it very bad too, My vet is very clever in the way she words things, she said during an appointment that guinea pigs can die very quickly from very bad cases of lice/mites....I think as I was told at the first vet apt that my boys were infested with lice and mites because their immune system was very low properly because they had something else wrong such as ringworm (which it turned out days later they did have)
So I'm very lucky to still have them I think. I would never buy another piggy from 'word of mouth' or just any rescue place again I'm off to the proper rescue centres next time.....one very big and expensive lesson learnt.

Aww poor boys and poor you! Horrible horrible thing is ring worm! I hope it clears up for you and the boys soon! :)

Bless you, you have handled it all so well - you have very lucky piggies, as if they'd fallen into the wrong hands they would have just been taken back to the 'rescue' - but then what would have happened to the poor things... I think a few people make the mistake of going to the first rescue they hear about, including myself! Where abouts in Lincolnshire are you? If I ever decide to get anymore piggies or small furries I'm off to the rspca, as they were fab when we adopted our cat a few weeks back :)

Hi @katie-elizabeth I'm in Bourne not far from Peterborough :) thank you for those kind words it means a lot and Thanks for the RSPCA tip Hun, wood green animal shelter (listed on here ) is my nearest I think I was just having a peck on their web page and they have appox 20 guineas in at the mo because they took in a large group they are soooo cute and I wish I had the money to dash out and buy hitched and runs etc so I can give them all a loving home. They have teddy/Rex ones too. I hope they all find great forever homes soon.
What's your new cat like, I like cats we always had cats when I was growing up.

Ahh really, my village is only about 20 minutes away from Bourne :)
Oh I know what you mean, I have to stop myself looking at all the guinea pigs needing homes, not to mention all the other animals! Do you have any other pets?
Wispa our cat is so lovely, I'm really enjoying having a cat in the house :) it's also rewarding knowing that we've rescued her from being in the kennels - they had so many homeless cats though, it was quite upsetting meeting them all and knowing that we could only help one! (they also had two guinea pigs there which I really had to resist taking home!)
Here she is, the rspca took her in because someone had handed her into the vets as a stray - she was pregnant too :(
they reckon she is about 1 or 2 years old :)

Oh she's beautiful thank you for posting a pic of wispa (that's a fab name), she looks happy to be in her new home. I only have fish and guinea pigs. Have you got other pets apart from wispa and piggies?
