Well I noticed that Boris had a very small white spot on his eye...just thought that it was maybe the start of a cataract! But on Wednesday the eye looked sore,so I put him and Piglet in the shed hutch so I could keep an eye on Boris better! Well yesterday his eye was really looking sore and 'popping out'....so took him to the vets. He is now on Baytril,Fucithaimic eye cream & metacam...so really hoping that his eye heals soon...but cannot think how he has done this, because there is a very small white dot on his other eye too!

This is the eye that is poorly, but looks green because the vet put the dye in to see if there was an ulcer on the eye! it does look better today!
Boris is such a good guinea pig.....he is eating the Metacam mixed in a very small amount of banana.I have to take Boris back to the vets on Monday morning!

Anyone else had this problem and what was the out come.....rolleyes

I haven't but you did the right thing taking him to the vets. Healing vibes for Boris, hope he feels better soon x

my jenny golden agouti non-crested had one, went away in a couple of days, i wouldn't worry to much, they don't fully blind them, there just not that good at eyesight.

My Ralfie had an eye ulcer and got it just after conjunctivitis, not sure if that was related :S he was on baytril and eye drops twice a day, it healed within a week or two, his ulcer was very clear to see though whereas Boris doesn't seem to have an obvious one if that makes sense? Best of luck, hoping it clears up asap x

one of our girls had a small white spot on her eye a few weeks back and it was actually attached to the eye, so we kept on eye on it but the next day it was gone, so not sure what she had, but i hope he gets better soon xxxxxxxxx

That is a relatively minor eye problem. It is a fairly common event. One of my boars has the same problem at the moment, probably caused by a piece of hay scratching the eye surface. His eye is ulcerated and swollen to the extent it is possible to see the "top" of the eye. Treatment consists of doing nothing other than checking to make sure that there are no signs of infection. He is not displaying any signs of discomfort whatsoever. He has almost certainly lost the sight in the eye.
If you have never seen the condition before it can cause panic and distress to the owner, meanwhile the pig just carries on as normal. I only discovered the problem in my boar when I noticed that every time I approached him he turned his head away from me!
