Hello everyone. I very sadly lost one of my piggles, Buddy, this morning and I'm devastated. My other piggle, Trevor, is really upset too and I need sme advice about getting him another friend. I had Trevor first and then got Buddy - both males and as far as I know, unneutered.
Basically, I need some advice. I would like to get another piggle from a rescue centre but unsure if I need to get a male or female, old/young? Any help would be gratefully received. I can't bear to leave Trevor on his own.

thank you

Zoe

Sorry for your loose.

If he is unneutered you will have to try him with a young male as very few females are spayed ( it is a much bigger and riskier operation)

Is he indoors or out? If he is out perhaps a cuddly toy can give him some comfort. Could you bring him in for the winter.

If he is indoors you could try the toy or give him more of your time if possible.

It is such a difficult time, give him a cuddle from us all

Maureen

Sorry for your loss!

We could help you much better if you would please state your area and what age Trevor is.

The best way to go about is to find a rescue within your reach that allows you bring Trevor for some "boar dating" to find a friend he gets on with well. We also have some rescues active on the forum who may be able to help.

Alternatively, you can consider having Trevor neutered and living with a sow or two. I wouldn't recommend it if he was over two years old, and you want to look for an experienced, piggy savvy vet for the best results. Trevor will need to wait for 4-6 weeks after the op before he can be bonded. However, cross gender pairings are generaly the most stable, provided the boar has been accepted initially.

Trevor will be withdrawn for some days. He needs to do his own mourning, but he should hopefully come out of it again.

We're so sorry for your loss. :(

Maybe Trevor would appreciate the opportunity to live with a sow (or two) now without his friend. He would need to be neutered but it will cheer him up I'm sure to have some female company.

All our best
