So even though I don’t have any guinea pigs at the moment, I thought it would be fun to have a go and make them a realistic home out of correx and fleece! I made it from scratch and it is my first time doing a project so forgive the inaccuracy of the whole thing and the roof doesn’t quite sit up nicely LOL

Oh yeh! I made a cosy today... I was wondering how large I should make it and looked at Wikipedia that said they can grow up to 25cm! So I made it quite big! For a first attempt, I am quite proud of myself :)

Continued....

Ok so here is the house!

Firstly hard to cut correx out and make sure the shapes were perfect. Then duck taped them all so there were no sharp edges, it would ruin the fleece and make poke out and hurt future GPs.

Then I started sewing the fleece together, this part was the tricky part and most time consuming! However it was fun :P I had to make sure that the correx fitted in between both the fleece parts and added large buttons and little hoops so that it can be attached...

Those buttons were sewn on and took a long time to do as I want to make sure they don’t come off. I wanted the correx to go in between the fleece so that I can just wash the fleece as I was thinking that if correx is washed often, it might become damaged?
What it looked like after the buttons were on...

This is the finished house... Hopefully I will make another one because I will be buying two GPs of course!

It is really big as its 25cm x 25cm.. I am sure it is enough space for two guinea pigs but I do not know if they can share lol

A little ‘window’ just to let air in and made sure there is enough ventilation. Do not want piggies having a difficult time sleeping.

Hope you enjoyed looking at the pictures and if you think there are things I need to improve on, let me know :) It’s a first attempt and I know that I can improve!

Woweeee! They are sooo great! I love the house! It's so original! Your piggies are going to be super spoilt when you get them! :))

Awwwwww its lovely :) such spoilt piggles :)) x)

HI!

The cozie is so fab. I hardley have anything to make one with ,any ideas?rolleyes I'm new and LOVE this site!

Aww thank you guys! Your comments are all so kind and just encourages me to go out and make some more.

Cool! well done they look fantastic how ever did you make them?

:)) I tried to explain a little with the photos, it is not as difficult as it seems, I am rubbish at maths and thankfully the measurements turned out fine. You must have a go and try, I am sure with careful planning you can do the same!

WOW! They're amazing, I love the house!
Your cosy is extremely good, especially for a first attempt
xx

Thank you TiddlesMidnight&Squeaky! I felt quite proud of that cosy too and I want to make loads for a rescue. I hope I can do it...

Wow I love that house so much. You should start selling them.

Thanks Piggyfan but I don't quite think they are good enough to sell lol Also, there is so much competition right? Many people are selling these everywhere :(|)

Hi Guineapiggi! This forum is fantastic right? I'm finding it so helpful to learn about guinea pigs. I don't have any yet but with this forum, I think I will feel confident enough to have some soon :<>

I would start off with a cosy, it's 2 rectangles sewn together, then make another rectangle for the inside, put a plastic strip (you can get thin plastic sheets from art stores) and put that inbetween the two sacks and sew that up, then you have a cosy. Have a go, perhaps plan it out.. You will need fleece, many fabric shops sell them or just buy from Primark or Poundland, a sewing machine will be very helpful but I am sure you can hand stitch it.

There is nothing like the house you made for sale, not that I have seen anyway. I do really think they would sell :)

Oh yeh lol Forgot about the house. I haven't seen it online either, perhaps it would sell but it is quite difficult to make and very time consuming. Also I do not know how it would work if it was smaller, I have made it big because hopefully I will have a large C&C cage.

I'm so excited, I hope the GPs like it, I want them to be spoilt over spoilt!

Hi I also think the house would be a great thing to sell I have made cosies but wouldn't know where to start with the house think you did a great job on it

I think it is all about planning, if it wasn't for my mum saying art and textiles etc is useless and makes so much mess the house, I bet I would be doing something amazing right now :(

She wanted me to go in the science route, which I enjoyed but then I didn't like it in college.

My boyfriend is so very encouraging and is always telling me I have so much potential and I could be whatever I want to be, he was so nice when I was making it at some times it would feel difficult but he would be supportive.

I think it is quite like a cosy actually... make the front part of the house, then the sides, then the back, make them 2x and then sew the bottom so top is open, then put in correx to make it strong, then just put string hoops and buttons and there you go! A house :)
