Has anyone else got this feeling? I am sure some of you that have huge herds must definately feel this!

This is how it works in our house:

Get up.

Make Hamish & Angus warm pellet mash, top up Suilven's dry food & 1st round of veggies

Work (Sly TGPF checking when boss not looking...)

Let pigs out for a run on the floor with 2nd round of veggies

Checks TGPF

Clean up poo

OH arrives home from work and demands I catch a piggle so she can have a cuddle (spends 15 min trying to locate and corner a super zoomy boar in a biggish living room...)

Our dinner (usually grazed on by free ranging guineas.. I don't let them have bad things tho lol :))

Check up on TGPF

Oh feeds piggies treats as they 'didn't like' what I fed them earlier according to OH...

OH goes to bed

I spend 15 mins catching piggies and sorting cages before I get to go to bed.

And that's on a day with no cleaning out and with only 3 piggies! It's mental how they invade and suddenly they take over your life!

Get up... good morning rounds, top up food and hay etc
Go to work, sit on TGPF for a lot of the day
Tell work colleagues any new piggie stories
Go home, clean up and chat to piggies
Veggie time for piggies
Get out a piggie or two for snuggles
Good night routine (i.e. I make sure I search so I can say goodnight to each one to their face hehe)

Made me giggle!

Just to add to this, when the OH stays at mine I often get poked in the ribs and told "fetch me a pig, fetch me a pig" and when I tell him to help himself "I can't, I don't want to be the one to scare them" hehe :))

LOL it can feel like that sometimes - especially if it's a cleaning out or bathing day!
Can I ask, how do you do the free ranging time, I mean how do you manage the peeing and pooing situation? We regularly let the boys out for floor time but have to cover the rug with lino and a fleece and put newspapers in the corners, but they still do big puddles of wee on the laminate floor! I'd love to let them have a proper roam in the evenings but feel like I have to prepare the area first... then worry that I'll miss a big poo/wee behind the sofa or under the coffee table!

I totally agree with you, they do take over your life, I'm not supposed to overdo things but because I am meticulous about keeping my piggies hutch clean, I spend 30 minutes every morning, removing all uneaten hay, removing every wet patch and then replacing with fresh wood shavings and fresh hay, if I don't get that done for some reason I just can't relax until I do, what with sweeping and setting up runs for them if it's mild enough, and taking veg out to them and sitting cuddling them outside it makes owning two dogs easy in comparison. Even last thing at night I'm out there with a torch and a nice warm Snugglesafe heat pad and more hay and my husband complains that the shed has been taken over by the guinea pigs( all their stuff). :)p:<>

I am in the happy situation that my boys use a litter tray for wee anyway. We have poo sweeps regularly cos they are not so hot at that but they will all use the litter tray if they need a wee. I didn't really believe it at first but now they get quite anxious if they are on the floor and can't get to it. I didn't teach tehm either they just auutomatically wee'd in the same corner so I put all their wee stuff in a litter tray with carefresh and now they go in there. I hope they are going to teach Suilven's new cage mate how to useit too when he appears...

Pretty much with our boys if we are i the house then they are free ranging. They love being behind the sofa but like you pointed out it's a nightmare so it's penned off with grids. As are the tv cabinet plus wires and the coffee table plus wires.

They only really have access to the floor and the hearth (there's no fire so no risk there!)

I totally agree, my day is pretty much the same, except, mine are like 3 gobby teenagers, they are always throwing hissy fits and shouting at me for something or another, i get back chat, they storm off whenever i go near, they plot against me, they make mess, and never tidy their own bedroom or clean their own cage, they refuse to eat their dinner until i give them something better, then they eat what i gave them in the first place!

Piggies..... who'd have them?

I love them really.

I sympathise completely......assuming there are no boarders, my day goes like this:

Get up - pop Squeak & Coco on the floor for a run while I clean out their cage; sweep up the poops, replace soggy newspaper (under fleece) if necessary, refill bowls of pellets and Readigrass, clean out the hay tray (aka 'toilets' rolleyes) and refill with fresh hay.

Then Squeak & Coco go back into the cage so the other 5 piggies can come out while I go through the exact same cleaning routine for their cage.

Then they all have their veggies, while I run the hoover round quickly.

Then its off to work - occasional TGPF checking (like most of us!).

Then back home for the second round of cage cleaning for the day and a longer floor time for each of the two groups of piggies and second lots of veggies.

Then, while we're watching telly, we get the piggies out in turn for a bit of lap time.

Oh, and before bedtime, Darklis has to have her Metacam.

Phew, so yep, my day definitely revolves around the piggies! LOL!

My day goes like this:
Get up
let the piggies loose and feed them
turn on the computer and check for any emails and work related stuff first; answer any phone calls coming in
medicate, groom, poop patrol and replenish hay
have breakfast at some point
wash piggy stuff on most days (*needs to remember to sneak in some human laundry occasionally before hub complains that pants have run out yet again*)
go on the forum whenever possible, work, watch piggies, cut grass and tend garden (when growing) and replenish hay ad lib; try to sneak in lunch and a piggy cuddle; pretent to listen attentively to hub (VERY important)
feed piggies
clean cages every 3rd day
listen to hub, hug hub (*never forget hubby cuddling time again, or he gets jealous!*) or cook dinner (which first depends on blood sugar levels)
poop patrol and replenish hay
night night tidbit for piggies (to get them back in the cage and have a head count)
medicate, groom and tuck in piggies for the night
last look on forum
go to bed

he he :) it's great isn't it! To think I used to stagger downstairs in the morning and stare at the TV with a huge mug of coffee! Now....get up, stagger downstairs....met by manic cage nibbling by naughty piggie (aka Miss Mabel!)...chop up a load of veggies....feed and talk to girlies (and any foster piggles), distribute hay and pellets (quick cuddle if time!), feed the cat.....THEN put kettle on for my caffeine fix!
Work (nasty Webmarshall won't let me look at TGPF:()
Home.....lots of wheeking as I come through the door :))
Get piggles out for cuddles and then they retire to their 'chairs' on the sofa....more veggies.....feed cat.....'cuddle therapy' with foster piggles.....then get my own tea :)
Put piggles back before I go to bed....re-stock hay supplies.....poop pick....water check.....crash out!
Who'd have thought such little critters would have changed my daily life so much! LOVE IT!:<>

So hub has diabetes? Sorry to hear that, so does my 17 year old son.:(

I yes all my babies (2 cats, 2 buns & 2 pigs) get cleaned and fed before I have any breakfast, most of the time I don't have time to have anything myself but if they're happy I'm happy :)

Wake up,
Go see McMac, change water, refill hay, dried food and give him a scratch behind the ears,
Check if weather is good, if so let the rabbit out in the garden,
Work: Clean up after boyfriend rolleyes , help mum around the house, feed the dog, go to the shop for mum and animal stuff and whatever else is needed to be done for mum
Go see McMac and have a cuddle,
Daydream and surf the internet and check TGPF etc,
Wrestle dog into the house so I can coax Rosie back into her hutch with her dried food,
Refill water and hay for Rosie,
Let dog into the garden,
Chop up a variety of veg and give to Rosie and McMac
Cover Rosie's hutch with plastic sheet
Make sure McMac has enough hay
Give him another scratch behind the ears and say good night
Chill out in bed on the laptop

This thread makes me feel so so guilty.
Get up.
Scratch Theo's nose, check bottoms for any sign of diarrheao, weigh every second day.
Take dog out.
Go to work 7.30am
Come hom 6.30pm-7.30m
Cut veggies, poo pick, clean litter trays, replace hay, change water, change any uneaten dried food and upturn any overturned piggloos rolleyes. Every fourth day full clean out and disinfect correx.
Take dog out.
Eat.
Feed the dog.
Hang up washing (every night) I clean cage takes 3-4 nights to wash as have 9x2 c&c)
Watch tv switching piggies every 20mintues or so for pee breaks.
10pm, night night scratch to Theo and attempt to get closer to Harry.

So I **** only spend about 30minutes a day with them. But i suppose I'm about the cage though even if I'm not doing something piggy related. Sometimes at night I'm so sleepy I dont get them at all out for fear I fall asleep and crush them. :(

When I get up in the morning I have to see to the pigs before i've even had a chance to go to the toilet :... (the bathroom is opposite the pigs room)

pigs:"mum, food please!"
me: "hold on I just need to..."
pigs "come on now, hurry up and don't forget to fill our hay trays!"
me: "but I'm bursting!"
pigs: "oh and open the curtains won't you?"

half an hour later after poop scooping and everything else inbetween i'm finally allowed to go and make use of the bathrooms facilities :))

:(|) Brill :(|)
Wish there was a device where I could talk to them whilst I'm at work ?/ I feel at my happiest at the end of the day knowing I'm going home to see my babies and be greeted by their little faces and wheeky hello's :(|)
