it has taken me a while to feel i can do this, but i have to say goodbye to Ordell. Ordell came into my life around 10 weeks ago-i had mentioned to a friend of mine who runs a bunny rescue that we felt we needed piggies in our lives again after losing Bill near the start of this year. She told me that if she ever takes any in i will be the first to know. as we wernt in any rush and wanted to offer a home to any pigs she may hear of we waited patiently. a good few months later i received a phone call telling me that she knew of a lady in my area that had two boars needing a home-i immediately agreed to take them on and the lady brought them to us a few days later.

it was obvious at first glance that my piggies hadnt had much interaction-they were around 18 months old and we were their third home :( they were first unwanted childrens pets, then this lady had taken them in. I'm sure she meant well but I'm afraid that it seems they wernt too much better off with her as i heard a couple of different excuses as to why she was rehoming them. after she left i gave them a good check over and found their nails over grown and they were absolutely crawling with lice. we soon got both these problems sorted, though they were still a little unsure of us they were slowly coming around and were definately our friends at veggie time!

a couple of weeks later whilst free ranging them, we noticed one of them had blood in their urine. upon closer inspection we found Ordell to be the one with the problem and immediately brought him to the vets. i did wonder how long he could have had this problem as they are bedded on ecopetbed(cardboard bedding) and they free range on dark carpet-it was only because he urinated on a white tile that we discovered it :'(

the vet started him on baytril suspecting an infection, but everything i was reading was telling me it could be more. after three weeks on baytril there was no improvement and he had even begun to squeak while urinating so i knew it was time for an x-ray. those of you that have read my threads will know how reluctant i was to have him aneasatised for the x-ray, but after my vet agreed that if anything was found they would operate there and then i decided i had no choice and agreed.

so last monday my little man was left over night at the vets with his loving brother Louis for company and was x-rayed the following morning. unfortunately the x-ray showed an extremely large bladder stone, so it was removed. when we brought him home that night he seemed really well and i expressed my relief in my thread about it and how proud i was of how well he had came through it. he was eating hay and munching cucumber and acting as though he hadnt just been through hell, the little fighter he was.

the following afternoon i felt he was being a little quiet, and being unsure of whether he had eaten and drank that morning i decided it was time to try and syringe water and food to him. he refused to take any water but gladly-and greedily might i add-took the food from me so i thought i was worrying about nothing. unfortunately that night i knew i was right in my earlier suspicians as he became very quiet-barely made a noise and wouldnt eat or drink anything. he just lay on my lap wrapped in a blanket to keep him warm. i considered the emergency vets but after a bad experience earlier this year which resulted in me losing my gorgeous bunny Gabriel, i decided to keep up with trying to feed him and get fluids into him and get him to my vets first thing in the morning. me and my fiance were getting up every hour and a half to check on him and try food/water with him. we awoke the final time at 8am to find he had passed away :'( :'( :'( poor Louis was cuddled up with him in their house :'( :'(

i was absolutely devestated-even though he had only been in my life a little over 9 weeks i loved him so much, he had crept into my heart the second i saw him and i so badly wanted to get him through this so that he could live out the rest of his life in his forever home happy with his brother :'( :'( i spoke with my vet later that day to ask why this happened, how could my Ordell be gone after all the hard work we all put in. he told me that it could be so many different things so i helped narrow it down my telling him that i had a suspicion that he hadnt been urinating. he then told me that it was highly likely kidney failure-he said that the presure his bladder went through alone could cause this as could the aneasethetic-combine the two and this is most likely the cause of his death :'( :'( he did also have the results back of the tests done on his stone, which revealed it was a calcium stone or something along those lines. he told me it was highly likely to have developed again and that this is probably the worst stone it could have been. i dont know how true that is but i do know that if a stone had reoccured i dont know if i could have put Ordell through that again :'(

I'm sorry this has been so incredibly long, i have been carrying it around with me for nearly a week now and i get so sad when i look at Louis. i just cant believe he is gone :'(

Run free at the bridge little man, free of all pain. I'm sorry i couldnt save your life, but i hope you atleast knew human love before you left this earth. find Bill and Budd and cuddle with them until the time comes for you and Louis to be reunited-watch over him for me. I love you, i will forever.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am so so sorry for your loss, poor Ordell :'(
You did a magnificent thing taking them in and nursing Ordell through his illness, my heart goes out to you as I can really relate to how you must feel right now.
Thank you for sharing his story with us, it was a brave thing to do and it had me in tears :'(
RIP Ordell, you look so much like my Larry. Have fun over the bridge with all your piggy friends 0:)

Ordell was so lucky to have been loved so much! :smitten:

He was a gorgeous piggie, I'm so sorry you lost him - but you did everything you could. :'(

RIP, beautiful boy

So sorry for you losing Ordell, you did all you could, but they just don't stick around long enough do they. It's heartbreaking when it happens, and upsetting to read his story. He sounds like a sweetheart, and what a handsome fella.

RIP Ordell 0:)

Thankyou all so much for your kind words, they have helped alot. I'm still missing my little guy so much and it breaks my heart to see Louis all alone. I'm contacting a lady today about bringing him to find a friend so fingers crossed they have some suitable piggies.

i wish i wasnt having to do this, especially so soon :'( he was in my life for far to short a time but I'm sure if he had been with me for 5 years i would be saying the same thing-piggies sure do creep in deep dont they?

:'(
