Here is a video of my yorkie puppy 'playing' with the piggies. They mostly took no notice of her what so ever, though they did touch noses with her a few times.

Note, turn your volume up to hear my puppy's cute little bark :)
My mum talks in the background, just ignore her lmao!

lol

Lordie, my piggies would have had a heart attack mallethead

lol I was not sure what they would make of her to be honest, I would of put her inside as soon as they got scared... but they seemed to be very interested in her at one point =/

Adorable, LOL I LOVE TINK .

she pee'd herself when I met her the other day, it was so cute.

Be careful though, yorkies have it in their nature to hunt small furry things! :) x

I have thought long and hard before I decided to finally post some advice, and its meant in the nicest possible way.

Yorkies are terriers, they by nature are ratting dogs so I would start to introduce strict bounderies with her as a puppy so she respects your piggies as part of your family and not something to practise instincts on.

Speaking in my situation with a big dog and one with very obvious prey instincts I have set up clear bounderies with her from the beginning. Sniffing and curiosity is fine, barking, lunging or bounding about them is not fine and she is being taught to be calm around the piggies. Pepper is learning this at the very young age of 12 :o she is learning that she is not allowed to get close to the hutch when the girls are in residence, same applies for the run if I have her outside (and she is on a lead that is attached to me at all times - she cant be trusted and is rather larger than a yorkie). When the girls are not inside, she can sniff and investigate the area where they have been but again she must respect that she is not to get over excited about the smells.

I want at the end of the day for my guinea pigs to feel safe around me and my home, which includes pepper. They are natually prey animals and react that way so I dont want to include any additional stress to their lives because a dog is pestering them. And for pepper I want her to be calm around the girls and anything that smells of them, I dont want her to go into prey drive and she isnt allowed to bark, run or rush towards, near or around the hutch or run (as this increases excitement levels).

Sorry if this seems a bit of a leacture - they are your pets and its up to you how you want them to behave. I wanted to point out some potential (they might not happen) issues that could crop up as your puppy grows up. It might look cute and funny (especially with a small dog) but would it be as funny if it was a bigger dog and the chances of them knocking the run over accidentally when they bounced about and hurt themselves or the piggies was greater.

.

fair comments, how ever tinkerbell is a small dog as you have already said. This video is of her very first time meeting the piggies. This was done so they all get used to seeing eachother and one anothers smells. As you can see, the piggies were fine and they didnt run and hide, they kept on eating etc. They went towards her several times, thus were not scared. Tinkerbell was here first, this is her garden so she is bound to be a little interested in the new additions. She is a good pup, loves cats.. Loves everything. If i thought for one minute she would try and hurt them i wouldnt of let her anywhere near them.

Honey my dogs only a small dog, problem is they grow into bigger dogs. i'm not trying to have a go at your or gang up on you, i'm just warning you that my dog is only part terrier, and he was like a thing posessed when he caught a wiff of mine. He would not listen to commands, he was not himself. Just BE careful, all we're saying. We're just worried. cxxx

.

we are careful dont worry. I'd never leave her out there on her own with them, just incase. Her tail wags everytime she sees the pigs or hammies, she just wants to play. Thats another reason why i got a run with a top lol

you are fortunate to be able to start from a blank canvas therefore able to mold her into the right way to behave around your pets, and they are as yet unfased by the dog - all positives which I certainly dont have. As lexybee91 has said both of us are just voicing our concerns to you so you can make sure you dont have any accidents.

She might want to play, but they are not toys for her to play with either which is where the respect towards the pigs will come in ;)
