my sister is have a guinea pig soon so they will be in the out side run together, we just dont have the space for a double indoor cage

Have the piggies already met each other, otherwise they might fight? Hes very cute though. x

What kind of guinea pig is your sister having?

Two guinea pigs need a cage that's 4 x2 ft, and a single guinea pig one that is nearly as big, so it can move around freely, especially when they are young and have lots of energy. Many cages sold for guinea pigs in pets stores are actually too small! Your boy will at least double to quadruple his size and weight when he becomes an adult at one year old.

If guinea pigs are kept separately (usually only when they are fighting with each other), they should ideally be kept next to each other so they can sniff and see each other through the bars. Otherwise you will have a struggle for dominance every single time they meet, as they have to start from square one. That won't help them to become friends!

we have not got the other guinea pig yet, but when we will have him we will introduce them slowly and see how they go, we could buy two because he was in a cage on his own, do they usually fight when you introduce another one.

Not always but unfortunatly mine did twice but yours is a young boar so you might not have any problems good luck though i hope it goes well keep us posted. x

It depends how long they're going to be together. If it's just occasionally in the run, some boars will tolerate each other for a short time because it's neutral territory and they tend to be more interested in the grass lol! Plus if they do kick off you can stick them back in their cages, it's pretty easy to spot the start of a fight! But if you're looking to have two together a lot, as the others said you're best going to a rescue and getting them to pair them up, constantly putting them together and separating them again may cause fights though x

if my sister gets a guinea pig when ronald is one will he accept a new baby guinea big in the run better than he would if they are the same age?

He would be much better off with a baby. How old is Ronnie now? He looks very young to me and would have to spend a long time alone!

There will be no question about dominance and dominance fighting, and Ronnie will be more relaxed when your sister's youngster hits his "puberty".

do you mean it would be better if we have a guinea pig when he is one or go to a rescue centre and get an older one now so he isnt on his own?

I agree better to allow him to be social at a young age so he dosent get lonley and so it would be easyer if you ever wanted to get more pigges becasue there quite addictive when you have one you will allways want more. hes a very handsom boy xxashxx

Ideally i'd say you'd be better getting a cage big enough for two and going to a rescue to get them to pair him up. x

as i want to keep him in an indoor cage we dont have the space for a double cage and we cant increase the height of the cage we have

I would think it would be better for him to get an older companion now as he is really young and will bond easily. The bigger boar will be the dominant one, but Ronnie will be a lot happier being underboy than lonely boy! Guinea pigs live in groups and are happier in company of their own kind.

You may have a problem with rescues because of your cage size. Most will insist on a 2x4 ft (60x120cm) cage for two guinea pigs. You will need a play pen for two boys living together, so they can work out any tensions before they erupt in fights. But that goes for which ever

I used a cage of ca 20x40in (50x100cm) with a wooden platform made by my husband, as it needed to fit on the back seat of our old car. But it was not accepted by the rescue I got Nia and Nerys from, even though it was not far off and they have the run of my living room during the day when I'm working fom there.

Picture: my old cage in the front; the new in the back.

You can get C&C grids from screwfix and on ebay for quite cheap and you can make them any shape or size you want, i had mine in a nero cage at first then sold that and got C&C. It's not essential that he has a friend, most people push for it but some pigs don't mind being alone, it just seems a shame as he's so young and has no friends bless him lol! x
