I was going through old pictures and found pictures of Penny, one of my first guinea pigs. I would bring her to my classroom when I was a special education teacher. This is what inspired me to use a guinea pig as a therapy pet now. The kids responded to her so much. Something about having a furry little creature on their lap or chest would make my students with multiple disabilities respond in ways that they never had before! Animals are just so amazing.

This was in 2007, I only had the one piggy and I’m almost embarrassed by how little I knew about guinea pigs. She did have a decent size cage, but no friends and not a great diet :(

I was similar when I first owned guinea pigs.
I look back now at the size of their cage and diet and shudder.

I really thought I was doing a good job, but knowledge about guinea pigs has come a long way since then.

I've always had two pigs, but the cage size was appalling

Awww... such lovely pictures! My first guinea pig as a child was actually the class pet... she used to live in the classroom in the school year, but as the teacher was a friend of the family and her husband was allergic to the pig, she got to live with us over holidays and summer vacation. Again, perhaps not the best set-up for a guinea pig (living alone), but we truly didn't know any better at the time. I always remember her... cute little red and white crested pig named Caramel!
