some of you may remember my friend down the road that has two boars in a 100 cm cage. Its finally happened. She came down this morning and one of them was covered in blood.I only found out because i took a space hopper round for her youngest and her older son told me.The one that was covered in blood has bites all down his back. They aren't deep but skin has obviously been broken.Gave them both abath in maliseb to clean the wounds and told her she has to seperate them. She doesn't know when she can afford another cage so have split the cage in two.Not ideal but she wont give either of them up.So frustrating. She couldn't even bring herself to check the wounds properly.

That is very upsetting. I cannot understand wgy she will not rehome them as she clearly cannot give them the care they need. Splitting that tiny cage up means they will be living in such cramped conditions.

If it was me I would try to get her to give me one and give him to a rescue. If not I would call the rspca for advice. I really feel for you here.

Ignoring advice, not being able to deal with the subsequent wounds then still making wrong choices for her poor wee piggies, this is very distressing! Is there anyone in your circle who could lend her a cage until she can afford a second one?

You may just need to be firm with her and take one off her if you can, or call rspca. She obviously cant cope and if it was very serioys injouries what would she have done because there was obviously no moiney for vet fees if she cant get a second cage. I know she is your friend but the welfair of those piggies are at stake. If it was her kids and she had locked each in a box room to keep them away from each other you wouldnt think twice about calling child services...

bad spelling i know, but this mad me mad and mad typing on a tablet makes for lots of mistakes lol

Grrr I don't understand the mentality of keeping animals, not caring about them but not being willing to give them up! I'm sorry you're stuck in the middle of such a horrible situation, I hope she will see sense soon for the health and wellbeing of those poor squeakers!

May have managed to get her another cage. Will know tomorrow.Did ask her if she would rehome one and she refused.Someone else checked rspca guidelines and as long as they have room to turn round they cant do anything about the cage situation.

I would be starting to seriously reconsider the friendship. You will find it too upsetting if she keeps doing thinks like this to her piggies particularly when she doesn't take advice about them - it cant even be put down to ignorance because you have advised her about what she should be doing!

if we fall out i cant help them.Other than this she is spot on.They are not neglected enough for RSPCA to step in .She has taken my advise about seperating them and not giving cooked frozen veg and does ask me bits and bobs.Am in the same situation with my sister and her rabbits but she doesn't listen to me at all and i cant fall out with her. Sometimes we just have to accept people don't have the same standards. Was once told by someone not to judge people by my standards as i would always be dissappointed

he seems fine. Will check on him Monday. No chance of her taking him to a vets.Has had an antibacterial bath. Will keep an eye on him.If they start to get infected will step in.She has sudacrem and will be able to make sure he is eating okay. The bites aren't that noticeable

Oh jees.....we knew this was going to happen didnt we :-( sorry you are having to deal with the repercussions of irresponsible owners.

I'm just pleased i can help them.Takes my mind off things.Dreading if they ever get anal impaction.

She is way too cruel Grrrrr. Did you get another cage for her? It is so unbelievable that some people treat their guinea pigs like this.
She really should give one of them away if she doesn't have the money or space for them :bye:.

I have never had a boar with impaction over the many years so I would not worry about that just yet x

Cage didn't come yesterday so hoping they bring it today. They run a rescue and have young kids so may have been busy

Oh honey, that is awful! That poor little guinea, no wonder they turned on each other with such a small space, and now they have 50cm each! :( If I was closer I could lend out my spare hutch/hospital cage :( x

Ugh I hate reading things like this. Some people just don't get it! And never will.

I just don't understand why people don't research animals/pets before they get them so they can give them the best possible life, if you can't then you shouldn't have them. That doesn't mean they have to live in a palace but at least have the basics eg: space, food, proper temp and indoor/outdoor environment ect.

I am scared to think of anyone in mn keeping pigs outside in the winter here. We get windchills in the -50F range at times.

So sorry you have to deal with this. I think it might be a friendship ender for me, but, I also see your point, that you wouldn't be able to help them at all. :(

I must admit taking on my first two without researching properly but found this forum within a week so got bigger cages and now in c&c and have their own room.Within a couple of days of losing my hubby I phoned a local rescue to find out if they could help if I was struggling financially to keep them.If they couldn't have taken any in if I couldn't afford them they would have been rehomed

Right, and that's okay. I guess what I meant was SHE has someone telling her what the correct way is and she doesn't care.

I was upset when I wrote it.

I should have said BEFORE or SHORTLY there after getting an animal. She has no excuse! She has you telling her (a friend) what they need ect. And she's not thinking about them and being selfish. I mean I'm sure she could make something that would be better than what they're in now. I google everything, maybe too much lol.

I also learned more after we got the pigs, but I had the basics for the most part.

Yeah i had piggies before so knew the basics.Just didnt realise how much space they needed.Knew about diet because asked questions about veg, hay etc from piggy savvy woman at pet shop. The cage came today and she sent à hidey and spare bottle as well.Set it all up for her and her kids were buzzing. The piggies jusr dived into the hay.Put sudecrem on Bruges bald bits. They both seem so much happier already

She doesnt know about the grease gland either..Luckily theirs dont seem active.Need to trim their nails at some point as well as they have never been clipped

Oh YAY! so nice of you to help her out like you do. Glad the piggies are happier which I'm sure makes you feel better also.

Yeah, I had no idea how expensive piggies were actually going to be. I wish I could grow my own hay lol. I feel like I'm always getting hay hay hay.

The fight was most likely caused by the cage being so small, tell her to buy a new bigger cage and rebond the pigs, maybe she could look on eBay? Might find a nice pig one on there, or a c&c cage?

She could get one for very cheap form ebay, maybe £20 ? Could she not do that?....
