I have a push mower, I dont trust myself with a electric one - electricity and a blade + me = accident waiting to happen :)) so I opted for a good old fashioned mower like me dad used to have (and it only cost £30)

I mow a small area of grass each day that they are not able to go out on it, that way they get to eat my lawn even if they are confined to the hutch and I worried that the noise of the mower would frighten them, I need not have worried as they know the sound of the mower = grass and crystal and fudge started to popcorn at the sound of the mower :))

I also mow a little bit before I put them back in sometimes if I am short of veg for their evening tea and with them in the run again I worried that the movement might frighten them, till I saw all 4 popcorning round at the prospect of grass (and yet they were popcorning on the stuff rolleyes:)) )

Yesterday all 4 were popcorning away like crazy while I mowed the grass before I went to work, I love my guys x)

Awwwwwwwwwwww bless them, they must like the 'Giant Guinea Pig' (which is what our mower is called :)) )

Randomly Misty seemed quite keen to hear the hoover the other day. I really couldn't work it out until it dawned on me - I always give her treats after hoovering because I didn't think she liked it! Talk about well trained me!

On another note - Emmalala I love your avatar! xx

No grass clippings

Lovely story but I hope you know that you mustn't give Guinea pigs grass clippings.

why not?

I either hand cut the grass or mow, and I know a fair bit about mowing grass and what it does to the actual grass, mine is a basic blade design that only cuts grass once, not multiple times as industrial mowers do there fore it does not bruse the blades of grass or cause fermentation as its picked up as well and directly fed to them there is no drying out or again fermentation, any left overs are removed and composted. The mower is also set on its highest level so the grass is cut 1inch from the ground and no risk of picking up mud or contaminants.

A single cut mown grass is as far as I knew the same as cutting patches with the scissors, its the same lawn they eat in the run too.
