Two nights ago I noticed that my girl Diasy wasnt eating or drinking (about 4 months old) and so I called to make a vet appointment. The exotic vet I normally go to were booked out for weeks, so i called many other plces. I was able to get the soonest appointment as tomorrow. This morning before I left for work, my girl had snot all over her nose and I syringe fed her water and tried giving her some bell pepper (her favorite). She ate tbe whole bell pepper and some pellets and was acting fine.

When I returned home from work I was greeted by her laying on her side in her cage. I started freaking out to check on her and she wasn't breathing or moving. I feel so awful that I might of killed her by syringe feeding her water (i was concerned because she hadnt been eating or drinking) and I feel sick everytime I walk past her cage. My boyfriend is going to help me bury and clean out her cage when he gets home because I feel so sick even trying to pick her up to put her to rest. Did I hurt her or kill her by giving her the water? I just wanted what was best for her and I feel so guilty. I've never had a pet die and I feel awful and terrible and I'm just wondering if there was anything else I could've done ti prevent this because I have two other older guinea pigs and I don't want them to go either.

I’m sorry for your loss. Please be reassured that it’s not a result of what you did. Guinea pigs are prey animals and therefore are skilled at hiding their illnesses very well. No one can tell you what caused her death except a vet doing an autopsy.

I hope you can come to remember the happy times you had rather than her sad passing.

I’m going to move your thread to the rainbow pet section. 💕

I am so sorry for the loss of Daisy. Giving her the water will not have caused her death. Sadly when pigs get I'll they can go down hill very quickly and if they stop eating should be seen by a vet as an emergency. You did all you could to have her seen as soon as possible so it is not your fault

I’m sorry for the loss of Daisy. Please don’t blame yourself. You did all you could. They hide illnesses and once you notice something is wrong they are usually very poorly. Take care.

I’m sorry for your loss. Sleep tight little daisy x

I’m so sorry you lost her, please don’t blame yourself x
Sleep tight Daisy 🌈

I am so sorry for your loss. Please don’t blame yourself. Piggies are masters at disguising what’s wrong.

So sorry for your loss. Sweet dreams little Daisy xx

I’m so sorry for your loss :( please don’t blame yourself. As others have said, guinea pigs hide their illnesses very well and by the time we realise there’s something wrong, it’s often too late.

Sleep tight Daisy xx

I am so sorry for your loss, huge hugs to you

RIP Daisy

I'm sorry for your loss. Snotty noses aren't usual so that may have been something to do with it. I lost an older piggy once to a respiratory infection which came out of the blue... my other piggies had no symptoms at all. By the time I realised and rushed her to the vet for antibiotics it was too late for her. Even if it was a bacterial infection any antibiotics can take a day or two to start working so there is never any guarantee. It sounds like she lived a good little life and had companionship of other piggies - so try to remember the happier times x

As others have said, please don't blame yourself. It is so easy to think 'what if' and question everything (I have to be careful not to get obsessed with this myself after losing some of mine, and my precious boy Odin). Your piggy was very loved and knew that.

I'm so very sorry for your loss x
