Junior Guinea Pig
Hi all. I haven't been on here long but wanted to share my story so far.
So, my parents bought me Poppy at the beginning of the year in the hope that she would help with my depression (for which I am on medication) and loneliness due in part to living on my own. I had guinea pigs growing up but not for about 10 years. Poppy definitely helped me with everything and I love her to bits. Within 3 weeks I got her a friend, Pixie, as she was pining for company.
I then found out about this forum and that there are GP Rescue centres. I felt so shocked at some of the animals story's that I wanted to offer some rescue animals a loving home with me and my girls. In the end I adopted 5 lovely girls. This meant that I then had 7 GPs, 4 live together in a C&C in the spare room and the other three a mum, baby (3 months) and possible auntie live together in the living room.
They have lots of cuddles and floor time and generally seem content and happy piggies....and are thoroughly spoilt. I think I spend more money on them each month than I do myself!
Within a month of first getting Poppy I decided I wanted to move somewhere with a garden so that they can run around outside when its warm and dry (in a secure run of course). I also wanted more space so that I can make bigger indoor cages for both groups. In October I finally found the perfect place but unfortunately it all fell through as the agent misinformed me of certain aspects
. It now looks like I won't be able to move until around February which I am gutted about.
I am also upset because I feel my girls need more room than their current cages give. So.....as a temporary measure I bought a new cage which should arrive this week for my 3 girls who are currently in the living room. Its a two storey one and I have already ordered a ramp tunnel which should hopefully arrive about the same time. It will only be for about 6 months until I finally move and can build their Piggie Palace!
My girls mean so much to me and have really helped me through a tough time in my life. I just feel a bit mean that they will only be in the minimum recommended cage sizes for another couple of months.
