I've just collected my two gorgeous new guineas, and they're absolutely beautiful! I was intending to get two baby girls, short haired, but once I got there I fell in love with these two. They're apparently about 2 years old, maybe a bit less, and they're so beautiful.

So far they've only explored as far as the shelter and the veg bowl, but they've made some cute little noises and hopefully they'll settle in soon. They seem a well settled pair and pretty calm, they let me stroke them in the travel cage all the way home. :)

I've been waiting months for this, I can't believe they're finally here!

Awwww congratulations on your new little fluffy bundles they are sooo cute x) Lovely pigtures :))

I got them from Essex Guinea Pig and Rat Rescue, and they are as yet un-named, but I'll let you know when we decide!

I am! They're so gorgeous. They're being a little shy at the moment, but that's understandable!

They are soooo cute ! Lucky you , I'm not collecting mine till the 30th :0

Hi,

I also got my two guinea pigs from there on the same day. Were you the lady with the two friends? I was the one with the three children!

It's lovely to hear you've got two lovely guinea pigs. Ours are still very timid but really fun to watch and getting braver.

The girls have been named! The black one is Parsley and the agouti is Nutmeg, and they're getting braver by the day.

Slink&Crumb - Yes, I'm the lady with the two friends! Great to hear your girls are getting on well and to see you here on the forum. Do you live close enough for a piggy play date, I wonder? Just to warn you, though, I discovered my two had mites when I got them home, so it'd be a good idea to check yours over too. They're easy to treat! I took mine to the vet to confirm my suspicions and he sold me the medication, but it's easily available online and maybe in pet shops too. I'm using Xeno 450.

I love the names! We live in Brentwood, where are you? That's a shame about the mites. Probably a stupid question, but how did you know? I haven't noticed any scratching but then they hide alot of the time. Which vet do you use? I think i'll take them for a check out, although they won't be very happy about it.

How are Parsley & Nutmeg getting on now?

Slink & Crumb - I saw one crawling on Parsley near her eye when she was on my lap. It's more obvious on her because she's black. The vet said they both have them, and he checked their lower backs - if you part the hair and look closely you may be able to see them moving around. "Walking dandruff" he called it and that's just what it looks like. It might be worth giving them a single dose just in case? I bought mine from VetUK and it was about £18 for 6 doses.
I'm near Loughton and have no car, so even Brentwood is a bit far for me, I'm afraid. I can't make my housemate taxi the guineas everywhere, she's already brought them home and done a vets run! The vet I use is in Loughton.

Oh, and the girls and getting on well, they were squeaking for their breakfast this morning. :) I'm learning their favourite foods (will do ANYTHING for some fresh baby lettuce leaves) and they're learning that I don't intend to eat them! They've both lost 7g this week, but I've decided that as they both weigh over a kilo this probably isn't cause for concern.

I'm so jealous about the squeaking for breakfast. I think i might burst if mine ever do that. At the moment they still think we might eat them!

Slink and Crumb, who were named by the kids! Slink after Slinky from Toy Story (my son's a huge fan) and Crumb because my daughter wanted to call her Muffin but thought that might make her feel too hungry? I've nicknamed them Slinky Pinky and Crumble Bumble, as they're my piggies really.

Thanks for the tip about VetUK, I've ordered some treatment just in case.

It's a shame you live so far away but i'd love to hear how Parsley and Nutmeg are doing. They sound very settled and happy already. I think it's going to take along time for our girls to get used to us, but they have started coming out to eat while I talk to them, so fingers crossed they might call for me one day!

Awwww, I bet they will soon. I keep forgetting it's only been nine days, and it's really quite amazing how quickly mine have settled. I think they must have been handled in their previous home. I wish I knew more about their history, it's such a mystery! I'll make sure I keep posting updates on here, so keep checking.
