hello
I joined this forum hoping someone could help me understand why my piggy died.
firstly he took ill over a week ago I took him straight to vets he stopped eating the vet checked him over gave him some antibotics then told me to come back in few days so I did he still wasn't 100% but I thought maybe he be on mend,i asked if it was his teeth she said no but I had a feeling it was, well I tang the pet shop and asked them who vet do they use because maybe I would do better with a vet that deals with guinea pigs daily they put me in touch so I took him there straight away they said his teeth are bit overgrown and that's why he isn't eating they told me to ring in afternoon see how piggy was, well all went well I collected at 6pm he had little kip when he was home I gave him some crictical care food in a syringe and water he perked up and was running round room playing with bunny they are inseparable the rabbit was so pleased to see piggy back he was grooming his face piggy was doing his popcorning I was so happy just watching him, when I got up in morning he was dead,i was and still am absolutely heart broken, I adored this little pig that's reasen I came on here because you would know how I feel,i carnt tell friends or hubby they say get over it its only a guinea pig :( but to me he was a little bungle of joy.
thanks :(

I'm afraid that I can't help you with the reason why your piggy died but I just wanted to say how truly sorry I am for your loss. It's such an awful time. I know a lot of people don't understand but everyone on this forum knows exactly what you are going through and how heartbreaking it is. Please take care of yourself and allow yourself time to grieve. We are all here to support you through this horrible time. Make sure you give bunny lots of cuddles too as he will be missing his friend.

Big hugs x

I really feel for you. You did all that you could, not taking the word of your first vet but seeking help for you poorly piggy. I know how you feel as I lost my first piggy in February & it was such a loss. I never thought it would hit me like it did. I still miss her a lot & use her picture as my avatar. My thoughts are with you at this sad time & time does heal but you'll never forget her. xx

Really sorry, you did everything you could for him and got a second opinion form another vet. You couldn't have done anymore.

The pain of loss is the same regardless of the species, it is the strength of the bond and love we have for our pets. You are amongst people you understand on here, to us they are not just guinea pigs or animals they are our family.
Make sure - as I am sure you are, that Bunny is getting lots of attention he will be missing his friend. Hugs to you

If you wish we have a section called Rainbow Bridge, it is were you can post a virtual memorial to your lost pets http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?16-Rainbow-Bridge-Pets It gave me a great source of comfort when we lost our first Piggie, the girl that made us joined this forum 4 years ago.

Hope you are ok

I can't help with a reason either. So sorry. Unless they have guineas that are close to them people don't get how much they are missed. I have 6 and am dreading losing any of them (bad enough when I lost my hamsters)

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm afraid i cant help with a reason :( Its horrible loosing a pet, some people just cant understand but i think everyone on here can- we are hear for you if you need to talk or vent etc. x

It is so heartbreaking when you lose your friend, and it can feel worse when the people you turn to for comfort don't respond compassionately. I am so sorry to hear that your friends and family don't recognise how much your piggy meant to you.

It's very difficult to tell why a guinea pig died from a forum, only a postmortem done by a vet will help you find the cause of your pigs death.

thankyou so much for your support it helps knowing other people know how it feels,i never dreamt it would hit me like this, he was a proper little character I'm glad he died at home and not in vets and he had a few hours playing with bunny and lots of cuddles of me so hopefully he died without any pain xx

I'm so sorry to hear of your guinea's passing. Sometimes they just go without showing any signs of illness (I lost Fudge that way), sometimes they get hit by something they just can't fight (lost 2 to strokes) and sometimes with all the best intentions in the world, their little bodies just can't fight back. We had a guinea who lost a lot of weight, we got him seen to at the vets and they gave all the antibiotics, painkillers and syringe food that we could need; they thought it was a nasty UTI. It kept coming back and after the 3rd time back, they suspected his kidneys were actually failing and there was nothing we could do. Little Arnold was desperate to eat, you couldn't get enough food into him! However his little body just couldn't fight anymore and he went in his own time.
He will have know how loved he was, and that you did everything you could for him. Feeling for you at this sad time xx
