It turns out this whole bumble foot rubbish has lef to an MRSA infection. That an anaerobes and ecoli. We have to put her on 3 antibiotics (2 oral and a topical cream) twice daily and it's pwning her gut. I was showed a list of maybe 12 antibiotics, 3 were toxic to guineas so they were ruled out, 6 she was already resistant to, one would be fabulous for the MRSA but the anaerobes were resistant.. so we're on that and the other 2 safe non resistant ones. It was a nightmare for the vets.

But her foot looks better, still swollen but not getting worse! Should be 2 weeks before she can quit the whole course.

In better news aswell she is using her foot to walk again and doesnt squeel in pain when you push on the pad to clean it :)

Plus I can be greatful for the fact that the crit care, mixed with the baby food, fresh squeezed orange juice and a load of probiotic goes down a treat! No fuss, and her poos are whopping and prolific! Great shape considering how much junk she has to take.. The only thing is that she just wont put ANY weight on at all. STILL! She is still 820gms (has been for nearly a month, previously 1.1kg) no matter how much she eats.. and the fact her poos are so good means shes getting the quantity! I'm wondering if the clear up of MRSA will mean she can put the weight back on.

So question is now, will having HAD MRSA mean she cannot date at sanctuary's? I was hoping after her foot showed great improvement to make the next step in dating.. I am in touch with a lovely lady in Newcastle (miles away I know but the piggy sounded spot on personality wise), and there are a couple closer to home..

It'd be a case of asking individual rescues and explaining the situation.

Many animals and people carry MRSA without a problem. I think it's like 1% of the population? I can't remember, it's early and I wasn't a particularly avid listener in my microbiology lectures zzz

I read somewhere that 1/4 people who visit hospital comeout carrying one thing or another if they dont bother to use gel.. and even then you walk it around on your shoes.. Needless to say, I dont know where I read that so it could be complete TRIPE :p

she's only got 12 days including today.. I'm sure she can handle one more week. I will admitte she is doing better than she was.. I put her in an open top carry case without a door.. fill it with hay, stick in her teddy (since her partner died she has a teddy she talks to) and keep her on my bed whilst I do my things. She can roam, snuggle, chat, she can see me.. keeps things fresh for her. She's perked up since we started doing that, but when you put her in the cage she calls you back so you put in some kale and she allows you to leave ;)

I just want to see her having real conversation and grooming times soon. She can't groom her own neck since her tongue op so she just smears food into her fur every time she eats. She has a green bib which goes crispy and the fur between her neck/chest is thinning out :/ using a moisturiser to protect against tomato acids etc. Cleaning her chest at meal times but she absolutely hates it!

Well to make things more complicated her tongue has fused to her cheek again. It will explain why she hasnt been able to groom properly.

I am taking her in tomorrow for the operation.. which infuriates me because it's taken her weeks to be able to eat without assistance. THe partner and I were going loopy from having to stay indoors so much!

fingers X'd she survives her second GA in a month!

Her feet are healing well however and she is doing really well poop wise despite the insane antibiotics course she has been on.

Thinking 10 more days following the op and we can evaluate how well she can eat on her own.. Then we can start talking to rescues again about bonding!

Poor Leeland, she is really going through it, but is obviously such a brave little girl. I never cease to be amazed by guinea pigs fighting spirit.
I hope her operation goes well and she makes a speedy recovery, she and you really deserve it.

Love to her and lots and lots of vibes x

Great news.. she is up and around like NOTHING HAPPENED! But also ....Weeeeeird..

Ok her tongue wasn't fused, it was the sides of her cheeks to the underside of her tongue.. it was like there was a membrane connecting the cheeks to each other! But she's been eating fine.

Plus there is a strange cut on her tongue anda bump on her chin.. healing nicely but no-one can work out when she must have bumped her chin!

The membranes were cut, only a tiny incision and cauterized, and she had only been home 5 minutes and she was tucking into EVERYTHING. I left the vet with an away bag but they didnt use it.. just woke her up, got me back round and let me take her away so she was probably ravenous. Syringe fed her some water which she took voluntarily so obviously doesnt hurt her a great deal if she is volunteering plastic pipes in her face!

Another wierd thing, she keeps getting fur stuck to her front lower teeth.. it gets caught right down at the bottom of the gumline and then sticks up/between the two teeth! It looks like where she rakes her fur because she can't lick it clean. The vet can pull her head up, pull the bottom lip down and firmly wipe the fur out with cotton buds and his finger... If I even look at Leeland the wrong way she gives me sass so I'm having a great deal of trouble commanding her cooperation the way my vet can :{

Any tips on how to hold the guineas head back without hurting her neck? And how to pull the lip down without hurting her mouth? She lets Alan get away with anything, but she gives me the exorcist!

p.s. my vet also added where I got my guinea from.. he then started talking about how P@H paid out £300 for selling a guinea with congenital issues and how one of their vets had said congenital issues are sometimes a thing they find. I think he's wondering if my girl has genetic predispositions thanks to her history.

So glad to hear shes up and around :<> :<> :<> xoxo xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Can't advise on the holding, hoping someone may be able to offer advice.

So pleased she is up and about, what a little fighter. Lots of healing vibes to her x

I Feel I should just stop being so soft and be a firmer with her.. I'm the mummy here, let me work! But I don't want to end up hurting or stressing her. The vet seems to get away with it.. and he's very heavy handed about what he does, swivells her about, turns her over, pulls her cheeks to look down the side.. She just lets it happen and then comes for a cuddle after..

I do that and she'd scream, pee and poo all over me.. and when I'm done wiping it off she'd deny me cuddles.. the ultimate stinger :red
