Hello, everyone! i have 7 guinea pigs ,one got preg, which was weird cause we never mix them, but got her from adoption, she was only 7 months old, her names rose, and we believe she was preg , when we got her , she had two pups only ,,,they both are twins ,,,even the one bald ear, but there both smaller than what ive seen as normal babies . one very active and running around and a bit chunky, but poor Edward isnt looking so well . he wont drink from rose, even though rose is trying to care for him , he has runny stools and real thin , he grunts when petted but thats the only noises i hear from him . his sister is loud all the time, i soaked some food but he uses as a pillow ...please give me some advise, if he dont make it id cry , and the vets around here dont deal with guinea pigs

Morning

Sorry to hear your little one is poorly. Can you weigh the babies on some kitchen scales? You need to monitor his weight. You can try holding mum on your lap and encourage him to latch on to a nipple to feed. You can also try offering bread soaked in warm goats milk

hope he is ok

How is the baby? Has it been to a vet yet?

Here are tips for handfeeding young pups if you need them (chapter is a bit further down the page.)
http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.html

Have you weighed the pups yet? You can handle them for short periods right from the beginning. Ideally they should be between 70-100g.

one is 45 grams and the second is 57 grams i got one to drink water now but small amount ...he also has runny feces.

Have they been seen by a vet? If not, please take them asap! Diarrhea in babies is a very alarming sign, especially in such a tiny pup.

Your pups are very small; are they drinking from mummy? How is the sibling?

his sister is small must active and loud ,,, all the vets around here said they dont deal with guinea pigs , or trust me i would have ,,, but tomarrow I'm traveling 64 miles to one that does and the brother refuses to drink from his mums but will drink a very little water if i put it on a spoon

Can you mush up some pellets and try to get that into him, so he gets a bit of food in? It is good that you are trying to keep him hydrated.

Piggies are usually born with a day's provision in case mummy is late in getting the milk bar going, but they should be starting to put on weight from day two onwards.

sad new

Ty all for the effort but. at 2am both brother and sister past away, the vet thinks they were premature and since it was the mothers first litter she was unwilling and unsure how to feed them, the mother has been moping around not eating now and not drinking , the vet thinks its normal and she should be alright , she is diseased free, but not remorse free, as it has sadden myself and my wife, i must continue to care for the other 7 piggys, today i started to build them a huge home vrs the smaller ones there in now . I'm building them a 11 ft by 8 ft house and hut combo with dividers, hopefully they will be happy in that. even though edward and bella were only 6 days old , i will miss the greatly

Sorry to hear such sad news.

I bet they will absolutely love their new home.

RIP little ones

I'm so sorry they didn't make it.

Please do keep a close eye on the mother, pregnancy toxaemia can kick in within a few days of birth (not sure what the limit is, but it can happen post-partum) and I'd hate for that to be missed because it tied in with her losses. I just think a vet check or at the very least a urine test to rule out toxaemia would be worthwhile, whether down to illness or grief it's not normal for her to refuse to eat or drink.

Rest well, dear Edward and Bella. xx
