I took my guinea pig to the vet to have her nails cut and the vet told me she had mange mite and treated her and gave me some Xeno 450 to treat her every 2 weeks.
Where she has been scratching she has a sore which is bloody and looks awful.
This morning I bathed it and put some wound powder on.
Is there anything else I should be doing?
She is still eating well but doesn't seem as lively as she used to be

Chrissie at gorgeous guineas has some great creams and lotions to help healing.
Galens garden cream has worked wonders on one of my piggies.
If you email her, she can recommend products. She posts quickly too.

Hope piggy gets better soon.

Zeno 450 needs to be repeated on day 10,not 2 weeks. Go to the chemist or health food shop and get a tube of Calendula ointment. This is soothing and healing.,and does not contain chemicals.

Calendula or chamomile cream is very good and also Aloe vera ointment. All natural and all work very well to sooth the irritated skin.

Zeno 450 says on the instructions to apply every 2 weeks and that is what the vet said

The life cycle of the mites that gps get is that the eggs hatch after 10 days.

Little Muffin is still not well, I got the cream and put it on and also put on some more zeno 450. She is quiet and her hair is all dandruffy. She is still eating but looks so sad. She has scratched the scab off and it is now red raw so she squeels when I put the cream on. Do you think I should take her back to the vet?

You need ivermectin from the vet. coco was so bad he was bleeding and scratching all day. I paid about $60 for the appt. and meds. they gave him 3 shots in 3 weeks. He grew his hair back and is happy happy happy.Don't make the mistake I made mine was scratching for months and everyone told me use bag balm it only kills the adults but the eggs hatched and the cycle continues. So get them checked out ;)

The zeno 450 should have cleared the mites. If the hair is very dandruffy there could be an underlying fungal problem as well. Give the hair a gentle tug to see if it comes out.If so and there is scurf on the ends, this could well be fungal.

Nizoral shampoo will get rid of this (from a chemist) and Caneston cream(also available from a chemist) will soothe the sores.
