I made this account because I seen a lot of people on here that know about guinea pigs. I only have one and he's my first, he just turned one and he's been acting differently. He's been sleeping in the corner on his temporary cage a lot more and each time I feed him he's just lunches and lays back down. I know his temporary cage is a little to small for him but I have him run around my room and the backyard for at least 4 hours a day. He's been making these noises and I looked them up, the noises are either him being territorial, mating, or upset. He's been doing it for at least a month now each time I'll pet him. He's been a lot more clingy lately and demanding more attention, I figured that would happen since he doesn't have a cage mate. A week ago I seen one of his eyes a little puffy and thought he got poked in the eye? Then I seen that he was crying white which made me concerned. I'd take him to the vet or get him a cage mate but my mother won't allow it. She thinks he's just replaceable and editable if he does die. Sorry if this post is kinda everywhere I'm just concerned on how he's acting and if what's happening is normal or not. He's my first guinea pig.

Welcome to the forum

You will need to see a vet for any health concern. Any change in behaviour also warrants a health check as it can be related to a health issue.

A haypoke to the eye is an urgent issue which requires prompt attention within 24 hours of it occurring. Eye injuries can deteriorate very quickly and can thus be more expensive to deal with.

White eye fluid is normal cleaning fluid.
Clear fluid suggests there is irritation or injury to the eye.
Green or yellow fluid suggests infection.

He also does need a proper sized cage. Being let out to run around does not count - the cage needs to meet size requirements for any time he is locked into it - for a single piggy the cage needs to be at least 120x60cm.
He also does need a cagemate as a single piggy is likely to become depressed. Two male piggies together need a cage of 180x60cm.

I can appreciate it is difficult if you still live at home but you are the adult responsible for him so it is important that you ensure all his needs are met, particularly providing vet care which is a legal requirement.

Our home care advice would be to switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily. If his change in behaviour is due to illness then he may not be consuming enough hay and given hay intake can’t be gauged by eye, it makes the weight checks all the more important. If he is losing weight then you will need to step in with syringe feeding.

I hope he is ok

Perhaps show your parents some of the guides on this forum?
This might show them how very important companionship and veterinary care are.
In this country, they would be breaking the Animal Welfare Act by not seeking veterinary care for him. He is a sentient being who feels pain just like us.
This must be very hard for you 😞

I did forget to mention this account isn't just for me its more for my friend who is a little older than me (reasoning the age year, we're sharing the account so it was better to put theirs because they're using more than i)

I'm 16,i don't have much money to take him to the vet if I could. He seems to be much more happier today and he has started to even popcorn a lot more. For his eye I bought a eyewash or eye drops to help him with his eye.

You cannot share an account, you are under 18, therefore the account will be closed.

Your piggy needs to see your vet: we can never recommend any home treatments. An eyewash will not be enough for an actual haypoke. A vet needs to use a fluorescent dye to check for ulceration which if not treated properly can lead to serious complications including losing the eye. Any ulceration requires antibiotics and painkillers.
The other symptoms need a vet to check them out.
