I use a syringe feeder for her probiotic with water but she refuses it. I tried a taste of it and it has a slight taste but almost tasteless. She loves child life vitamin c liquid.
I was wondering if it would be ok to use child life vitamin c liquid with her vegan probiotic instead of water?

Welcome to the forum. Why are you giving your guinea pig probiotics? Is she on antibiotics?

Guinea pigs don't need anything extra in their diets. As long as they have a diet made up of at least 80% hay (it should be available 24/7), a tablespoon of good quality guinea pig pellets per piggy per day and a variety of veg each day they will be fine. Here is our guide for a good diet for guinea pigs for your information.

Yes my guinea pig is on an antibiotic. She's an adult female

What probiotic is she having? Bene-bac is the recommended probiotic available in the US

If she is being syringe fed due to a related lack of appetite and reduced hay intake, can you can mix the probiotic into the critical care/mushed pellet syringe feed.

Guinea pigs don’t need to be given supplementary vitamin c as routine. They get all they need from their normal diet of hay, veg and limited pellets. Too much vitamin c is simply excreted in the urine but long term overuse can cause their body to get used to abnormally high amounts which can cause scurvy symptoms if the level then drops even if the level it drops to would still be considered normal to any other piggy.

A vegan probiotic that was recommended by her vet. I give her child life vitamin c because she's been refusing to eat her veggies for 5 days now. She only wants to eat hay. Yesterday I ordered her some oxbow critical food. I'm still waiting to recieve it. I'm just looking to make it so she will take her probiotic willingly and that's why I asked if I can use the vitamin c instead of water with it. I would ask her vet but he's on vacation is what I was told when I called. I'm new to this forum but I'm not new to guinea pigs. This is the first time that one of my piggies had to be on a antibiotic

Sadly antibiotics can upset their tummies and they can stop eating. It’s vital to weigh daily to check for weight loss and to step in with syringe feeding to keep their guts moving. While you are waiting for critical care to arrive you can syringe feed mushed up pellets with water. I will link you the relevant guides

She has been refusing her veggies before the antibiotic. She had just started her antibiotic yesterday. I'm aware of what you said but it's great that you note that to people incase it's someone that doesn't know any better.
As I said before I'm just looking to make it so she will take her probiotic willingly. She struggles and puts up a fight which is why i asked about mixing her probiotic with child life vitamin c in a syringe instead of water. I'm looking to have her accept her probiotic willingly. I don't want to upset her no more. It also hurts me when she gets mad at me because she doesn't understand. I just want to make it easier for her. You already know how important a probiotic is when a piggie is on antibiotics. All I want to do is make things easier for her and not upset her no more. Can I please get a answer

Veggies are a good addition but actually not essential - as long as she is eating pellets and hay she will be taking in adequate Vitamin C, so there is no need to include that as a supplement.

As for the probiotic it is important, so you can try mixing it with a small amount of something like a fruit purree, or to be honest just pick her up and syringe it directly into her mouth.
This really is the best way to make sure she takes it all, and once you get used to it, the process is fairly fast and won't stress her too much.

Please also bear in mind that this Forum is staffed by volunteers who have their own animals, families and jobs to attend to and your tone towards @VickiA who was trying to offer you help was not very polite. We are all doing our best to answer specific questions, but if you personally feel that anyone (staff or members) falls short of the mark they still need to be treated with respect. Being rude won't get you anywhere.

I take it that you didn't fully read through of what I said. I wasn't rude at all to @VickiA. I'm out

I didn't realise probiotics could be vegan or not! I guess I'm not sure what counts as vegan - obvs no meat, fish, dairy, eggs etc for people vegans, but is it the yeast in probiotic that makes something not vegan? Sorry if I sound a bit daft, but I'm interested to know ☺️

I mix probiotic into Crit Care slurry (or ground up pellet slurry) rather than syringe watery-type liquids. But I have been known to blitz carrot in a blender (a strong one!) to get a little juice as this is thicker than just water, popular in taste, and hopefully less easy to inhale. In desperate times I've chopped veggies and ground with a little water in a pestle and mortar then syringed off the fluid at the top after it has settled.

I hope your girl can start to pick up a little with her antibiotic x
