Within the last few days I have got one of my guinea pigs making a sound similar to a hiccup and/or hacking. I had never heard this sound until a few days ago (and I’ve had them for months). I’ve only heard it a few timed but I’m scared she’s sick or something. Is something wrong with her? Or is it normal?

Does it happen when or after she's eating? (too greedy eating. Swallowing air/food going down the wrong way). Guinea pigs can get heaving hiccups, but they should be over in a matter of minutes. If not, please see a vet promptly!

If it is not eating related, please see a vet in case it is a respiratory problem.

It has happened a few times now but it only lasts a minute or so each and I’m not sure if it is happening after eating.

My pigs do this if they eat too fast! It goes away a couple secs they settle down from eating
