Hi,

Today one of my pigs, Bluebell, has started making noises. She's normally difficult to catch but today didn't run away. She also didn't come out of the hutch into the run when I brought some grass.

This is all very out of character.

I've managed to record her making the noise. Any ideas what the issue might be? I'm guess a trip to the vets is on the cards.

Thanks in advance.

I am no expert but it sounded like she was in pain to me. I hope someone can help you and you have good luck at the vets. Sending love and healing!

That does sound like she is in pain to me too. Possibly something with her tummy from the movement she did. I would get her to the vet as soon as you can.

This is the sound my sow makes when trying to wee if she has a bladder flare up. Its definately a pain noise and needs to be seen by a vet asap x

That's exactly the same sound my beloved Sam made when he had bladder issues and then a massive bladder stone which he couldn't have removed and had to be PTS so please have her seen by a vet as she sounds in a lot of pain x

Definitely pain, she needs to see a vet tonight. Hope that she is more comfortable soon x

That's a sound a piggy makes when they are in pain. Please can you get her seen by a vet as soon as possible. Even if the vet is fully booked they have a duty to treat animals in pain/ distress so your vet must fit her in if you call and explain this to the receptionist. Please let us know how you get on.

UPDATE: So after a couple of nights spent overnight at the vets, it turned out Bluebell had a urinary infection. They ruled out stones and crystals so instead it appears to be idiopathic.

Because of the pain, she stopped eating which in turn caused a large amount of gas to build up, therefore causing even more pain.

I'm glad to report though that she's very much herself again, walking around, eating etc.

Thanks to you all for your advice.
