Guinea pigs are group animals and depend on the company of their own kind to be there with them round the clock, day and night. If they haven't got that because they are forced to live as singles, then they will latch onto whatever companionship they can get because that need is overwhelming, especially if they are alone for most of the day and night.

Please be aware that it is a major responsibility for you to fill that constant need for company that a guinea pig has all its life long until it dies; healthy guinea pigs live to 5-7 years old. It would be good if you spoke with your parents about getting a same sex friend (check the sex of either piggy before putting them together as mis-sexing is not uncommon and follow our bonding tips).

You will still enjoy your piggy, but you'll know that it is happy, too, whenever you are away at school, too busy to give it several hours of interaction each day of its life or when it is awake at night.

If you get another piggy, please introduce them properly and do not just plonk the newbie into the cage! That can lead to fights! and please make sure that you sex both piggies before you put them together; mis-sexing from shop people or general vets is far too common!

Please also be aware that guinea pigs, and especially young boars need lots of space. A cage that is too small can lead to fight and fall-outs when your teenage boys can't get away from each other. In a larger group, the loing boy would just move away from the stronger boar; which is why fights between boars are rare when there is plenty of space and plenty of company to find friends.
