My guinea pig Yassabella has always been chubby, but recently she has really gotten fat and my vet said she really needs to go on a diet. So I feed her separately only feed her 3/4 of a 1/8 cup of healthy pellets. She gets exactly 1 cup of veggies measured. she has floor time every day and has a very big cage (3x5). but she is still extremely fat. with in the past 3 months she has gone up 40 grams and I think that is a very big amount in only 3 months.
I don't know what to do? what is the perfect diet!

What was her "normal" weight and what age is she?
I can't really think of any reason she'd be putting on weight if she's getting lots of exercise and the right amount of food :hmm:

Is you vet an exotics vet with piggy experience?
Has she been checked for any hormonal issues or ovarian cysts?
Bloating is an issue that causes weight gain also.

I had issues with Toast gaining weight and it turned out she had a case of bad bloat. After a round of medication to help get her gut moving she was pooing normally again and her weight went back to normal..

She is around 3 and her normal weight is 1180 and her weight lately has been 1220.
My vet is the best exotic vet in Auckland and its also where aucklandcavycare neuter and spay there piggies.
The vet said it is just weight gain because of to much food and i only put her on the diet about 2 weeks ago. Although she is sort of prone to bloat as she has had it twice now, however she has no other symptoms. She is happy, alert and is eating all her food.
i also forgot to mention she is a long hair and that might add to the weight.
