My guinea pig Pip, has been lying down ALOT lately. He just doesn't seem himself. He's had no change in diet, or anything. What's wrong with my piggie?
If it's been as warm where you are as here then my guess is that Pip was just having a rest. My piggies, usually on an afternoon all have a siesta & all lay down & rest. If he's eating, drinking, peeing & pooping fine & isn't hunched up in a corner or has no outward signs of illness then i'd say he was fine. If you are at all worried, take him along to your vets
It's around 19 degress celcius here, so it isn't that warm. It's been going on for a few days now. I've just been up to see him and his eyes seem a little red and he is very quiet. xxxxx
I agree with Niki. If its warm where you are then it could just be heat fatigue. During the warm spell that we had in glasgow (it lasted about 3 days), my piggies were very lethargic and just lazed about most of the day but were still eating and drinking fine. Hope Pips ok..
***********JUST SAW YOUR POST ABOUT THE WEATHER. I would get Pip to the vets if he still seems poorly tomorrow.
You need to take him to the vet. If you are not old enough to take him to the vet then you need to get your parents/carers to take him. Just like humans, they have a legal (not to mention moral) right to proper healthcare.
These things are easier and cheaper to treat if you do so early. Guinea pigs can go downhill quickly.
Then you need to make your parents see that Pip needs a vet - explain a bit more what's wrong - really press as it's important to his health right? Surely you don't give up straight away?
Perhaps you need to show these messages to your parents, when you buy a pet you do so on the grounds that the pet will be looked after and get medical attention if it is needed, not let it get ill and die. I am sorry this is harsh but your parents can't just shirk their responsibilities.
I'm sorry to hear about your piggy. As the others have said he sounds pretty poorly. Do your parents show much interest in your pets? If so, try asking if they've noticed the change...it could be something really simple that the vet could sort out in one visit! Vet bills for piggy's really aren't that expensive so there is no excuse.
You might want to think about seperating the two of them in case it's something contagious. Put him in a seperate cage with fresh clean bedding (next to the other one so they can still talk to eachother!) and keep a close eye on him, this way you can monitor exactly what he is eating and pooing etc. You really need to go to the vet!
I'm sorry about the piggie, but if your parents let you get the vet out for your pony, then they should let you see the vet with your piggie, I don't see what the problem is.
I am english I'm in year 10 so yes I'm not that young.....
My mum basically thought there was nothing wrong with him. She was probably right because I worry too much x
not at all. when i first had my piggies, and they are outside piggies, i was forever checking on them, to make sure they where ok. still go out loads each day to see them, between feeds, and a quick clean. Don't think you ever stop worrying, its like having extra children lol.
