I’ve recently got a new Guinea pig (Barry) and my other one (comet) is not happy. Comet will get jealous whenever I’m holding Barry. Today I had held Barry and afterward I held comet and he started going crazy. He kept on sniffing my hand and clothes and quietly chattering his teeth, wherever Barry’s scent was. He also would lick my exposed skin. Is comet being territorial? Do Guinea pigs usually do this?

Yes, It’s normal behavior. Maybe give your guinea pigs a little more time to adjust to each other before picking one up or paying attention to one more then the other. I’m not an expert at this kind but obviously it’s a dominance thing. They want to be in control and running the world try picking up comet first.

Hi! Always observe the hierarchy and feed, handle and groom the top pig in a group first, as is their right. It is even more important with dominant piggies and helps to avoid problems for the underpiggy. Guinea pigs live in a strictly hierarchical society.

Licking skin can mean that your boy likes the salt on your skin. Guinea pigs explore the world with their mouths.
