Hi all, I just bring my GP to her new home. She borned just 2 weeks ago. I was watching her in petshop with his family and waiting for her done drinking from mothers milk. Today owner of petshop told me she is ready to adopt. She is now at her new home and she is just standing at corner. She is not moving. I just saw her eating a bit from hay but i didnt see her drink water. She was able to drink water from water bottle at petshop. But i didnt see her drink water nearly 1-2 hours. Should i worry about this ? She generally just standing at corner without any movement.

Hello! Welcome to the forum :)

Two weeks ago is very early to be removed from her mother. It is disappointing the petshop have separated her so early it is normally 3 weeks.

She could do with having another friend to live with preferably another baby as piggies love to be with each other.

Make sure she has a little wet veg to get some moisture into her

Has she got a little hidey house to go into in her cage? Piggies like to have place to hide as they are prey animals.

Are you from the UK?

She is standing in the corner because she is scared so get her a little house to sit in and make sure she has unlimited hay to eat and a bowl with some dry food in pellets such as Harringtons or Burgess

I will find out how much veg you need to feed baby piggies daily and post it here, it is a smaller amoutn a day than an older piggy

I already read all of these threads. But i can't stop worrying about her. While i she was being transported in car, she was "weeking" at me.(She was standing in box). And i thought we will get used to each other very quickly. But when i take her in my hands to put her to her new home she scared a bit and tried to jump from my hands. But i was holding her secured, so she cant escape. She has shavings, water bottle(which stays at a height that she can able to reach), two little canteens(one of them has hays, other one has quality Gp like these http://www.drsfostersmith.com/images/Categoryimages/larger/lg-18669-vendor.jpg) and finally she has a opened face mask lying at ground like these http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51PL8zRbHrL._SL1001_.jpg

So she can sleep in it. ı Will buy a proper Gp home as soon as possible.
But she is now standing in one of the canteens(contains hays) without any movement. Maybe she is sleeping.

She definitely needs a hidey house not a face mask to go into, a shoe box with the ends cut out would do for now.

Excellent. she can have both then. Good she is eating.

What veg are you planning to feed her?

How big is her cage too?

All the advice so far has been good. I took two 3.5 week old piggies into my rescue 2 weeks ago & they are doing fine. She really shouldn't have been removed from her mother till at least 3 weeks old & later if possible. She will need a house to hideaway in, a small cardboard box will do & put lots of hay in it. Give her a few veggies including fresh grass but only cut it with scissors. If she hasn't had veggies already then just give her a little to start with. I haven't had lots of experience with babies but I'm learning fast. Try sitting her on your knee with some veggies or grass. This will get her to trust your hands :) x

I can feed her with fresh parsley, lettuce, cucumber, tomatos, cherry tomatoes, carrots, sweet yellow peppers, dill and chard. We always have lots of these at home everytime.

She is staying a cage a bit larger than this http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/images/...e/xl-guinea-pig-indoor-cage-52a0524a866e1.jpg
just for now.
I secured part of my room(no cables, no dangerous places for Gps) and i will prepare a proper exit from cage so she can exit cage and roam in my room whenever she wants. But i will make this a bit later, because i think she is very young for roam freely in my secured part of room.

I will try to feed her some fresh parsley with my hands but i dont think she ll eat it from my hands. If she don't eat it from my hands i will put some to her food container.

You have had some good advice so far so I don't really have much to add. I too am surprised that they sold her so young. I took a pig in at 3 weeks from a rescue (they knew us and had no lone sow for her to live with) and she was incredibly nervous. It helped her having her the other pigs around. Did the shop not have another baby of the same sex they could have sold you too? Please could you update your location (even just the country will help) as it affects the advice we can give you.

The other thing I would add is hay hay and more hay. It is a very important part of their diet. It will also give her something to hide under if needed.

Guinea pigs are prey animals and take awhile to get comfortable. They are also animals that naturally live in groups and are a lot more anxious alone. Finding a same-gendered companion might be a good idea. She is young to leave her mom and siblings- that said, when I got Frenzy she was only about 3 weeks old and she settled in very well. You've gotten some good advice already- she will need somewhere to hide, plenty of hay and good pellets, and some treats (veggies, etc.) And time and patience... plenty of time and patience. It can take some time to gain a guinea pig's trust.

I just updated my location. I'm from Turkey. My Gp(i didnt find a name for her i'm thinking for it right now) had two brothers. But pet shop sold them. So my Gp was the only baby in pet shop along with his father and mother. If i didn't take her someone else would take her. In my county pet shop owners are cruel to animals.(I wont go into this subject because i don't wanna upset you) The only thing they want is our money. I wanted to take(save) my GP as soon as she stop milk her mother. And pet shop owner said it will be no problem and he said i can take her now. Maybe i shouldn't listen him and let my gp stay with her family a bit more.

I just talked to my gp with a low voice for a half an hour while we look at each other and she looks relaxed to me. She stand up a little bit and yawned. While i was talking to her she was closing her eyes like she is sleepy. But she is still staying at corner.

Should i try to feed her with parsley with my hands ? Or should i left her alone for this day ? She may scare if i try to feed her. (She is eating her pellets again now)

Well done for saving her. Your english is fantastic by the way :)

Just pop her Parsley next to her and she will eat when she feels able too. Then in a few days hand feed her.

Completely understand, I have some friends who help with the dogs in Turkey.

Update: I put some parsley yesterdey but in this morning i saw she didnt eat it. But i heard her sounds she was eating her pellets and lay whole night. I gently handed parsley to her and she ate it all.

The problem is i never see her going to the other side of the cage.Which has a full water bottle. I don't think she drank any. She is still staying at her corner. She didn't enter shoe box or modified face mask. And i just noticed her grease gland is very very dirty.(Her backside fur is White, and her grease gland is very noticable). Looks like she really needs a bath. I will take a suitable shampoo for her from vet. I know how to give a bath to a Gp. But she is very young and i don't want this to be a traumatic experience for her. When she will be ready for a bath?

I think she may be too young for a bath. You could wipe her bottom with a baby wipe? Give her time, she is so young and will take a while to feel comfortable in her surroundings. It is a good sign that you heard her eating all night.

Update: Everything looks very good. She is exploring her cage, she drank so much water from bottle, she sometimes stands up at the near of cage and look at me, she sometimes week to me when i enter the room, i even see some popcorn : ). I put some fresh lettuce in my hand and she come out on top of my hand and ate it. She is now looking at the face mask. I hope she use it for sleeping & hiding.

Inspite of she come top of my hand i didn't touch her. Didn't want to make her scare and escape. So i didn't clean her butt or grease gland. I will try it sometime later.

Thank you all for your help.

You are doing well, it sounds like she is starting to trust you :) What is her name?

You really are doing great, she is lucky to have found a home with you.

it sounds like you are starting to build up her confidence in you! Well done. Keep doing what you are doing and dont make too many sudden changes in her environment, hope you have found a good name for her.x
