I recently bought five bags of Burgess timothy hay with birch bark because the piggies looooooove it. It was so nice and soft and short cut. I opened one of the five packets to find it was a different cut than the last two and its got longer strands and a lot coarser. Naturally the piggies wont eat it now after I've bought five packets of the damn stuff. Why do you torment me piggies :hb: Ive had the worst luck with Burgess hay lately lol.

It's surprising just how fussy they can be, isn't it!
Can you take the hay back?

Write a letter to burgress about the hay and they such send you something back, hope this helps you !

I would take it back except we have such a hard time in Australia getting quality hay and Burgess has a good reputation. They always have been real fussy about hay, theres only four brands that they will actually eat, 80% of their diet is definitely not hay.

You are so :own:, but not alone in this. I've had a problem recently with several batches of hay I've bought being very short chopped up strands, mine wouldn't eat it. I tried 3 different makes. After visiting 4 shops and examining the hay through the plastic (and getting some funny looks) I found one that looked ok. They would eat it and I put the other rejects in the bottom of the hay trays as litter. Little b-----s are now scratching around like chickens eating the small bits :hb:.

The last 3 bags of burgess that I got (the stuff with dandelion and marigold) is amazingly soft and short cut. It's a pity you're not likely to get the same bags in Australia (I'm assuming they're getting the hay from different places) or I'd definitely recommend it.

We call it the hay lottery in our house. It's often a bit like a lucky dip as to what's in the bag and what the piggies will eat from one week to another. Sorry that you've bought 5 bags of it, though.

They last two I got were were soft and short and the piggies adored it.

Yes piggies have totally got me wrapped around their little paws. 14 bags of hay in storage and three they wont eat.
