The hay I have at the minute isn't very nice. I didn't realise how un-green it was when I got it!

Anyway I decided to treat them to some excel herbage whilst the other hay is used up as bedding. Anyway I only have about 2 days worth of the herbage left and haven't got round to getting some better hay.

Today I decided to mix the herbage and existing meadow hay together to make it last a bit longer. I put it in the hay racks, I did a layer of herbage on bottom and then meadow, then herbage.

When I got home from work both cages had a line of hay suspended in mid air in the middle of the hay racks (the meadow stuff) I don't know how both pairs managed it but it stayed exactly where it was and they had eaten all the herbage from above and below :))

I'm going to have to source some better hay asap!

They're so funny. Mine are the same. I got some lovely Orchard Grass from The Hay Experts and they love that.

Clever little devils, aren't they?

I have made similar experiences, that's why I prefer to always have some cheaper hay around which I use mainly for bedding, but it keeps mine from getting too fussy in case of an emergency (like now - I'm short of herbage as well).
