There is no photo above. If your guinea pig has an eye problem then he will need to go to a vet.

Eyes are very delicate so problems need to be addressed very promptly @larson

Right @larson , you need to go to the vet immediately. Like I said, there are no photos in the first post so we cannot advise anything other than a vet visit.

If it is popping out then it is definitely an emergency. Please ring the vet immediately, and request an emergency appointment.

That eye is damaged and will be causing pain please see a vet asap. As in today. Is he registered with a vet?

And even if he is not registered with a vet, if you call and say it is an absolute emergency, any vet should make time to see you today.
Please get him there as a matter of urgency.

it could be interesting to see also the right eye, for a comparison. And also to know more details about this piggie, if it was a congenital defect. This pig looks healthy... normal poo, normal shape... I hope it is something stupid still easily curable.
Waiting for your news :)

It could be a poke injury (they are prone to poking their eyes on hay.) At any rate, it will need a vet assessment and treatment ASAP. Wishing your little pig a swift recovery!

Hi the real problem is that even the vet told me that he don't know what is wrong with it.. he told me that it was weird .. He also gave me two eye drops .. Now the thing is that my guinea pigs eye is sometimes bugle and sometimes not.. its like changing back and forth -.- please I need real help here :(

Hi :) Unfortunately my guinea pig lost his eye and he is now blind from 1 eye. At first I went to the vet and he gave me 2 eye drops.. 1 week passed and still no good signs. Yesterday I saw his eye turning white so I decided to go to another vet. She told me that it was too late because he is now blind ;( Al tough he is still healthy and happy :) The doctor told me not to remove his eye as it isn't bothering him at all :) People will call him ugly I know.. but he is still my precious little blackly :) and for me he is perfect ..
Thanks for your help guys :) Really appreciate it.

Hi :) I'm sorry to disagree with your vet but I really do think that the eye needs removing.

I had a piggy like that once and my vet removed her eye explaining that leaving it would cause a great deal of pain and it could rupture :(

Eliza was much more comfortable once her eye was removed and she was fine with just the one eye x

I 100% agree with @Claire W . The pig may not be reacting to the eye but there is a massive infection in there and it's going to get worse (and could ultimately kill him). The yellow colour is a pointer towards infection

@larson Please seek out a second opinion from a different vet. The vet you saw may not be experienced with guinea pigs.

I had a pig with a very similar eye. His tear ducts blocked causing an infection. He had his eye removed as it was causing massive amounts of pain. The pig can't blink and the eye will dry up and rot away. Please help him by having it removed.

Well, the vet told me that there a risk that the guinea pig will die during the operation.. should I risk it ?

It's always your choice and as we aren't vets we have to say that you need to consider what the vet says.

But, if he were my pig I would go through with the surgery.

If you can find an experienced guinea pig surgeon then he has a higher chance of recovery.

The surgery has risks and one of them is him not making it through the surgery but the eye is not going to get better if it is left along.

A good guinea pig vet may have ideas for trying different medication but when my pig had an eye like that the vet and I decided to remove it

@larson

It's a hard choice to make but whichever the decision it needs to be in the pigs best interests. He's likely to be in a lot of pain.

Oh my that does look very painful and infected! I definitely recommend finding a piggy savvy vet to get that eye checked out properly. Any vet that says it's okay to leave it like that is one I would never go back to again imo.

I hope your little one recovers well!
